i'm just glad i saw this group when they played like they did at that ohio show that started this thread.

its not like i'm bman and fooling myself into thinking they're still relevant or particularly good, but i guess i'm in the huge minority in not really feeling like a betrayal to all of my punk rock or fuck you roots to just give a mulligan to any group that was so fucking great and moved me like they did. especially when they don't make any real bones about the fact that its a job for them now. they go out. i usually don't go and i certainly don't make any effort or pay any money to go.
they used to be great. greater than great. and that's about all of it for me.

and i'm sure they've been douchey to each other on the business and creative end and that makes them like far too many entertainers to count. clint eastwood makes boring movies now and appears at the republican convention. should i hate him or should i sit back, watch play misty for me, and enjoy the genius that was?

like most of us, i've allowed myself to hold out some hope a few times that they'd find some greatness in a later career moment, and, with few exceptions, its been a let down each time, but fuck.

but they were fucking great. they affected my life as a kid in my 20s the memories of which still bring me joy in my 50s. like the clash and the jam and iggy pop and david bowie (heroes) did for me when i saw them in my late teens. like led zep and pink floyd (animals tour) and a different david bowie (thin white duke) did for me when i saw them as a younger teenager.

jane's 1.0 set a standard for those few great years, in terms of performance and attitude that, at least for me, most subsequent bands haven't gotten close to matching. and in the years that followed, thru around relapse, kept it up with some very good records and tours. love porno. and while dave in the red hots wasn't my fave era by any stretch, it was a pretty cool moment. and the shows rocked. saw iggy stooge play with them at the garden and saw dave play sound and vision between songs. those were cool things.

so thanks for posting that stage video from buckeye lake or whatever shitbag midwest deadhead stinking shed they were playing that night.

that was a band.

please resume perry bruce jenner jokes now. they're pretty funny.
