a question to which i've never known the answer..

#1 Post by jason » Sat Oct 19, 2013 8:20 am

don't know why i was thinking of this today, but i guess it's just one of those rare Jane's things to which i have absolutely no answer...but when, exactly, did perry and casey split up? and why? i'm not looking for serious personal information, just general curiosity is all

Didn't they split around mid 1990 around the time RDLH was being recorded? I think the party where Eric supposedly hit on Casey was during this timeframe and along with the rampant drug use in the band, it further exacerbated the non-communication in the studio to the point the only song they recorded together as a band in the same room for those sessions was "Three Days" in a single day.

I remember reading somewhere that Perry got served papers the morning of Porno for Pyros performance at woodstock that Casey was filing for palimony. I think it was in that awful book saga of a hypester.

You could probably twitter message that Sonya/Sofia? lady who is writing the book on Casey? 'When did Casey and Perry split?' isn't really that personal, in fact it is kinda weird that it hasn't been posted somewhere already.

Casey and Perry were together during most of PFPs. "Freeway" was the first song written without Casey around. Christina came in the picture during "Freeway" and is said to be the influence for that song

Find out the date of that premiere and my guess it was around that time that they broke up. Reason given by Perry is drugs.
Barton Saunders: I was fairly shocked when I heard that Casey and Perry split.

Perry Farrell: I've been thinking about Casey. We had a pretty great time there. I had a secondary partner for art. But she began to feel that she had to be part of everything that we did. It's not that she didn't have good ideas, but first and foremost, she was my girlfriend.

Casey Niccoli: It got to the point where we couldn't stand the sight of one another. Of course, I would have done anything to stay with him.

Perry Farrell: The drugs split us more than anything.

Casey Niccoli: I don't know if it was drugs. If you took drugs out, there were still problems there. You know what? I don't think I had a solid foundation there before the drugs. Drugs were good for him. From what I can tell, he still finds some kind of comfort in that lifestyle.

Barton Saunders: They had a premiere of Gift at Laemmle's on Sunset. As far as I know, that's the only time it was ever shown in a movie theater. Pretty much everyone was there--except Perry.

Casey Niccoli: He had some new girlfriend and we were all supposed to go together. It was like, whatever. Go with the flow with Perry. Then we got into a big fight, so I smoked a bunch of crack and went to the premiere. Perry had decided that he didn't like the typeface on the titles and he changed all that and spelled my name wrong. I freaked out. I had been with this guy for eight years, and he can't spell my name.

Barton Saunders: Casey was crying. She was very upset that Perry wasn't there.

Perry Farrell: When I last saw Casey, neither of us were in a very healthy state of mind. I hope she's better now.

I also liked he said "I had a secondary partner for art." He can't just say "partner," he had to clarify she was secondary.

I remember reading a Rolling Stone interview and a Spin cover stories during the indoor leg of the Ritual tour at the end of 1990 just before Lollapalooza ramped up that seemed to indicate Perry and Casey had split by then. That was also when I found out the band was breaking up at the end of '91. To be fair, I never really paid much attention to the inner workings of the band, especially without the benefit of the internet at that time.

Doesn't Perry get Casey up on stage in one of the Lolla bootlegs from '91? He says something like "that woman's got soul".

I remember reading that Meija was about Casey because she'd disappear for days and then turn up wanting money. Can't remember where I read that.

Girlfriend gets to contribute to the band's art and lyrics, but wives have to sing backup vocals on songs about ex-girlfriend?

Casey was on stage during some Lolla shows. There is at least one audio boot where that happens, with Perry talking about how they get in fights and cheat on each other, but they love each other so much. Casey was filming Lolla for a documentary or some kind of film. You can see some of the raw footage on yt.

I always thought that Meija could be about Casey, but it's not something I ever looked into. I don't recall reading anything about it.

Incidentally, I'm sure some people have noticed that Casey and her boyfriend recently got engaged.

Casey was definitely at some of the lolla shows is 91. She even said that she signed bassists in who came out to try out for P4P at the very beginning.

I remember something from '91, almost verbatim, "my girlfriend's a real motherfucker. She fucks with my head. But what can ya do, fellas?"

according to what Pete told me a couple years ago, Casey and Perry were together during a big portion of PFP. I remember him saying that Freeway was the only song they wrote without Casey as their muse and the last song they wrote. And that Freeway was wrote after Perry and Christina got together.

She told me they broke up in 1994. The main issue was drug use.

I was at the Medicine Show, July 25, 1992, an acoustic, and very early P4P performance. Heart and Alice in Chains did acoustic together, which is what made up their SAP EP. Rage Against the Machine was also on the bill. This was a benefit show, and Casey played a big role introducing the benefactor--and telling her to keep it short, as the crowd was restless, and kind of rude. It was great to see Casey address the crowd. While she was not one of Jane's or Pyros, we all know the role she played as artist and muse.

Cut to 11/13/92 in Tijuana, an amazing show that literally brought the house down (or at least the ceiling). Perry was sharing the mic with audience members. A guy asked, "Where's Casey?" and Perry suggested Casey was like a bad wave, and he had to get off, or something to that affect. My sister was at the show with me and remembers Perry's Asian girlfriend (Christine?) being there.

Sounds like Perry threw Casey to the curb mid to late 92'.

My name is actually Casey. So whenever I am scanning a thread about the other Casey without remembering what we were talking about, I'm like, WHY IS EVERYBODY TALKING ABOUT ME?

As you were.
