I just read Dave's book again. this guy wrote an entire song about "Mary", Dave's drug dealer, that's so lame .....what's he doing these days, hopefully not back to vj'ing, he sucked at that too it seems....is there any scenario you can place this guy and not have him suck?

How is that any different than Perry writing a song about Jane, the house prostitute? Or Etty, the band prostitute?

if he'd been in another band and then had written those lyrics I'd be ok with it but I think it's a weird situation singing it when Dave is right there next to him. also because of the fact that Steve (very likely) never met her once

What a confusing band that was. Didn't Dave say there was supposed to be a reunion gig a few months ago?

He probably mumbled that to someone while he was hanging from hooks and all the blood had drained out of his head.

Dave imagined panic channel would be bigger than janes, then he went running back to Perry once he realised Steve's on-stage presence resembled that of a cucumber.

I think that's giving Steve too much personality. He was more like a Hot Topic t-shirt. And I don't mean because he wore them. I mean because he might be a nice guy, but as a frontman he just felt like a piece of shit shirt from a mall that cost $39.99 and started losing threads and colour and the iron-on-image of some corporate shill shitty band the first time you washed it, and also was stupid to begin with but you only bought because you were bored waiting for your girlfriend to finish trying on shoes at some shitty store and why the hell aren't there more vending machines in this stupid mall? Why is it impossible to get a Coke when you're being dragged around the ninth circle of capitalist hell?...

Yup. That's the Steve Isaacs-as-Frontman experience.

He probably is a really nice guy though.

In late '98, I briefly met and talked to Gary Cherone who was Van Halen's 3rd (and widely panned) singer for a year or so. The guy was really cool, personable and seemed pretty sharp but I think he was already well aware he absolutely the wrong guy for that job.

Oh yeah that poor guy never had a chance. Thats one of those moments in rock history where you remember exactly where you were when you first heard the news.

It takes a special kind of person to front a rock band and rarely does "nice" factor into the equation.

Nice is a relative term there are all kinds of "bad boy" rockers that on a personal level are actually really nice.
