The New Music was a Toronto show done by City TV. The interviewer, Laurie Brown, is great.

*Correction the interviewer is Denise Donlon
Denise Anne Donlon, CM (born 22 February 1956) is a Canadian executive, television producer, television host, and programme director.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, she joined MuchMusic in 1985 as a host and producer. In 1992, she became the director of music programming, and was named vice-president and general manager in 1997.
From 2000 to 2004, she was the president of Sony Music Canada.

Perry's response to Denise Donlon's comment about the GNR fans jumping ship to become JA fans cuz GNR was getting too big seemed curt. I'm sure he didn't really agree but didn't want to get into anything.

and creep, totally agree about the hair. it's rather mullety and feathery.

"thome thtores didn't thockt the record"

lispths aren't funny.

Creep and KV, you're absolutely right- it's the difference between experiencing Thin Elvis and Fat Elvis; two completely different entertainers. How do you stay lean and mean and creative even when the stack of green comes flowing in? Despite all the rationalization by some on the board of what he's become (straightened teeth, horrible music, who he's married to, hawking Dobel), he flipped on himself. Should he have evolved, should he have changed from the late '80's and '90's? Absolutely! The bummer is that he did a complete 180° of what he was preaching back in the day. It could have been so much different, but as others here have postulated, I really wonder now how much of the creativity was drug-fueled or was Casey's work.

I am pretty sure Casey hummed Perry's bassline ideas while blowing Eric and that's how 3 Days was born ...

Denise Donlon also interviewed Perry in 1990 during the Ritual tour when they came to Toronto. I used to have it on videotape. It's easily the best Perry interview I have ever seen...been combing YouTube for years trying to find it. The shit he was saying (especially for a musician) was ahead of its time; talking about how "controversial" musicians in the media are a distraction from the real evils of the world: the government (IE: "big brother") and people who start wars.

Perry used to have attitude. And what happened with his speaking voice? It's like it got for feminine over the years. Maybe it has to do with touring and singing...even now, sometimes I hear him in interviews and his voice sounds like "old Perry" and then other times it sounds very lilting. I'm guessing it's more like old Perry while touring and more dainty when he hasn't been singing night after night. :noclue:

I think a LOT of people are underestimating the strong influence of HARD DRUGS and YOUTH on how this man used to be...most of the best "art" that's ever been done has been done under the chemical influence...throw into the mix being younger and hungry and there you have it...I always wonder why anyone is surprised...

I respectfully disagree .. I think people underestimate the effect of wealth on a persons integrity and artistic truth .. most of Janes and Pyros was not written on drugs ... the drugs came heavy with the touring .. not so much with the writing .. drugs are used by "the man" to kill the "artist" .. as is money .. truth is counter productive to profit .. if anything is true, it is that Perry has a much different CONtract than he did with Warner Bros .. I will also say that most bands once fully enveloped by alcoholism die the most embarrassing deaths when it comes to artistic output .. and clearly Perry is about the booze .. Dave sounds drunk even when he is not.. his lips have forgotten how to work from so much of whatever he takes these days .. Perkins .. like most drummers .. probably just wants to play drums and pay his bills .. even McCartney, Lennon, Dylan, Prince .. all their work suffered during times that they often even admitted the drinking was off the deep end .. even the beloved trent admits his crappiest records came from booze .. or painkillers or whatever it was they needed more of so they made a new record .. music is too powerful to let a man like young perry be free to spread his message .. thats why we have garbage like american idol making the new controlled music stars .. or puppets like miley and rhianna .. as long as they don't start saying anything to rally the masses, like perry used to, they will continue their wealthy lifestyle .. speak out like MJ and they buy you off or try to kill you one way or another ..

of course it's true. If you're a musician and you're feeling inspired and you then smoke weed you're even more inspired. Eddie Van Halen once said that heroin users usually play amazing stuff in the beginning of their drug use, but then when the highs lessen after weeks or whatever constant use the amazingness disappears and is replaced by the opposite.

In the opening moments of THREE DAYS, a documentary on Jane's Addiction's 1997 Relapse Tour that premiered this week at the Slamdance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, Perry Farrell responds to a question on whether the band's reunion was financially motivated by saying, "I don't know how much money I have, and I don't give a shit. All I know is that if I want a sandwich, I can get one within an hour."

Why does it take up to an hour to get a sandwich? It takes 3 mins to make one.

Does he mean to have one of "his people" bring it to him within the hour? I wouldn't wait an hour to eat if I was hungry. I'd just go buy or make it when I was hungry.

IIRC Good God's Urge was almost completely written while Perry, Pete, and Martyn were heavy into heroin.

They would try to get clean two weeks before going out on tours. P4P basically lived with eachother and were nuts on drugs during both albums.
