I agree, well saidCaseyContrarian wrote:Pete's a pretty classy guitar player. But Navarro could have been -- and almost was -- one of the greats. That's why he is so frustrating. As to the "squealy notes," I think Trevor is referring to the awesome pinch harmonics on stuff like "Had a Dad," which are very much based in the metal lead traditions, but in no way invalidate DN's technical and emotive capability on the instrument.
The fact of the matter is that the solo in "Three Days" alone -- with its liquid metal fusion of Jerry Garcia, Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page -- is enough to qualify Navarro for the pantheon of great players.

I don't think he ruined it, but I did notice right away that Dave's playing on solos had become much more standard and bluesy, which didn't sound bad, but was a bit of a letdown from the more creative sound explorations of yore.trevor ayer wrote:I also felt Dave kinda ruined Summertime Rolls on the Relapse tour .. something was missing in his playing .. it seemed more bluesy and much less psychedelic than the classic era live performances .. it seemed like some of the anti soloing mentality had worn off by then

I always rooted for P4P back in the day cause people generally didn't dig them as much as JA...on the albums I like em both about the same for completely different reasons...Sadness, Meija are my faves on the first... Porpoise Head and GGU on the second...Pete vs. Dave??? I like Pete slightly more but they're both great for different reasons...I like Pete's soloing style more...some of Pete's leads on the first Porno album are INSANE...Black Girlfriend, etc...Dave I like for his sense of layering, particularly on Ritual...NS not so much...like the bands I love them both but they're different animals...I rarely compare the two...

I'm a fan of Freeway as well. Not sure why people would have a problem with it. Flea's bass lines are sweet, Perry's vocal harmony during the verses are great, and the chorus is big and expansive. Great lyrics too. The electronic effects are neat. This was one of my FIRST favorite songs off GGU when I first heard it.farrellgirl99 wrote:I also love Freeway. Definitely one of my favorites. Also love that opening bass line.Juana wrote:Yeah I like the vibe of GGU more I guess. The first record was great too but the just total different feel from the first makes it stick out and seem more like they were going on an adventure on this record with the change of sound.LJF wrote:blackula wrote:Not to sound all hippy, but both albums are just different trips. I love both of them. The first one brings the gritty jerking off in the riots crack smoking perry while the next brings out the trippy pot smoking surfer perry.
Having missed 1.0 and not seeing jane's live until relapse, the 7 or 8 porno for pyros shows I saw were some of the best times of my life. Enit at pnc arts center was one of the most amazing shows I've been to.
I agree on both albums, they are both excellent with such different vibes. Enit was a good show, I got to meet Perry at show. Quick chat which was nice.
As for Freeway that is my favorite P4P song when he is talking about being "so jealous" its just perfect.
I need to listen to P4P again. I haven't given those albums a good listen in a long time
