Then do the fucking math.creep wrote:what if an album has 16 songs?
13/16 good songs would be 81.25%
8/10
4 stars out of 5
16 oranges out of 20
Is this really a hard concept?

well what if an album has 20 songs and you like 11 of the songs? that would be 55%. do you rate that a five or a six?Six7Six7 wrote:Then do the fucking math.creep wrote:what if an album has 16 songs?

"I like that song. Therefore, 10. Yeah. Definitely 10."creep wrote:how would you rate jethro tull's album "thick as a brick" it's one 44 minute track. it's either a 0 or a 10. that's just not fair.
i see your point.Adurentibus Spina wrote:This still misses the point. These numbers measure how many songs you like on an album... that doesn't tell you anything about whether you like one song more than another across albums, or whether you like one album more than another. (Hell, it doesn't even tell you whether you like one song more than another among the songs you like on an album... which is just stupid...)
I might like more songs on Ritual than I do on NS... even as a ratio... but I might think NS is the better album...
Six7Six7's method is a kind of weird quasi-Asperger's failure to understand what you're even trying to measure/compare in the first place.
i'd give it a 0 because that's just a fucking stupid ass thing to do. And the band's name sucks.creep wrote:how would you rate jethro tull's album "thick as a brick" it's one 44 minute track. it's either a 0 or a 10. that's just not fair.
The fact that other people have more well-thought out methods doesn't excuse how stupid the method was that you claim to have used to give TGEA 7/10.Six7Six7 wrote:i see your point.Adurentibus Spina wrote:This still misses the point. If only, some day, there were journalists who specialized in music and wrote columns along with their rating, describing various musical textures and lyrical content so we can understand just why a score was given.
One of these days, someone should invent that. Some sort of "music journalist" or something like that. Maybe even create magazines and websites based around it.
I asked what you'd give it... according to the scale I provided above, in which 0 = Will never list to this album again, 5 = Meh. [You]'d listen to it if someone put it on, but [you] wouldn't choose it [your]self, and 10 = Among [your] favourite albums of all time.Six7Six7 wrote:According to my own iTunes ratings it's only even a 6.2/10 if you average the stars.
So my listening habits dictate that it's only really a 6. Rather than a 7.
But that is still way higher than the 3.25 that you're giving it.
I do too.Bandit72 wrote:Am I the only person on here who prefers Ritual to NS?
Okay. Well, that just totally explains why you like STP. Carry on.Six7Six7 wrote:it would be between a 6 and a 7.
I'd put it on myself, but i'd skip certain songs.
3-4 of the songs in fact.
Which is indicated not only by my 9 previous statements as such, but also by the visual that i gave you showing my exact ratings and plays of those songs.
I can't be any more transparent here.
The fact that I like a band from the 90s explains why I like another band from the 90s?Adurentibus Spina wrote:Okay. Well, that just totally explains why you like STP. Carry on.Six7Six7 wrote:it would be between a 6 and a 7.

Nope, it's my favorite as well. I like that it's more eclectic and less metal. Not that NS isn't a masterpiece. They're both works of genius.Bandit72 wrote:Am I the only person on here who prefers Ritual to NS?
Great analogy. That's about the same with me. I think the production is far better on Ritual too, less tinny.Jasper wrote:Nope, it's my favorite as well. No shit. Imagine that.
It's almost like there is some sort of common thread between what they both do or something.
I guess that's true. One was a rock band that wrote hit songs and played arenas, and the other puts on cabaret shows in half full theaters.Adurentibus Spina wrote:There's no common thread.Six7Six7 wrote:The fact that I like a band from the 90s explains why I like another band from the 90s?Adurentibus Spina wrote:Okay.
