I prefer the first album to the second. (Same for Mars Volta...) But this third one seems kinda interesting.

I hated Muse at first, then I saw them live and was blown away, then I liked them for a while, and now they bore me again.

I wouldn't go see Arcade Fire... but I also wouldn't see JA... :noclue:
Arcade Fire and Muse are utterly different bands - it's like comparing mid 80's U2 to late 70's Queen.

I can't speak for Arcade Fire's current tour and how they come off live, especially since it appears they have radically revamped their sound and the band structure compared to the last two albums and tours. But I saw them on their last two tours in '07 and '10 respectively and both shows were outstanding, blowing away any post 1997 Janes show by a country mile.

Regarding Muse, I think they are probably the best pure arena/stadium rawk band currently going for better or worse. I was not a big fan of the last album and passed on that tour although I love the single "Madness." However I saw them on their previous tour for the "Uprising" album and thought that was one of the best "big" arena production shows I'd seen in the last decade.

That's weird. I didn't think of them as an arena-rawk band when I saw them (in 2004, admittedly). It was on the Curiosa Festival tour in support of the Cure... they were on the second stage, and it was just a hell of a show... the songs sound better live imho.

I guess they're now an arena band... that sucks. I guess I hate them.

Heh, that reminds me of a guy I used to know who was a tech guy at a small Apple sales/rental store that my best friend worked at in the early 90's. This guy was utterly into indy bands, the more underground they were the better. He was a big Nirvana fan and when "Nevermind" came out and hit it big he disowned them. It was weird, one day I came by to go to lunch with a few of the guys there, and this guy was in the back room ranting and smashing his couple of Nirvana cds like he'd gone off his meds.

I don't hate a band purely because they at some point become really successful and play arenas or stadiums, I hate seeing most bands *at* arenas and especially stadiums. The other reason is that more often than not, a band does their best work their first few albums, THEN they become wildly popular and the quality falls off.

U2 was a really good example of a band that actually got a lot better musically live as they played bigger and bigger venues. The first time I saw them back during the "Boy" tour in '81, it was a 1,000 capacity club and they were pretty amateurish. By the time I saw them play the huge outdoor US Festival and later, the LA Sports arena in the same month in '83, they were much better musicians, had more, better songs to play and just seemed better suited for larger venues. The slew of shows I saw during the Joshua Tree tour in '87 remain the best arena/stadium shows I've ever seen.

Those were the good old days of standing in line all night and scalping tickets. I cant think of a band that was more in demand than joshua tree era U2.

Arcade Fire has 4 albums out (and an earlier ep)

I hated Arcade Fire untill a friend gave me a free ticket to see them on the Funeral tour (05). Was Blown away and haven't missed them since. Their albums don't even come close to doing their live show justice.

Muse sucks (can't say I've seen them live though)

So it's already an hour past the time Jane's was supposed to receive their star there has been zero live coverage. Maybe their cheque bounced. :noclue:

Are you surprised that something Jane's was involved in fell flat?

Pretty sure Etty is the one running Jane's twitter account

The people including Etty on the star congratulations are getting retweeted by the Jane's Addiction twitter account.

Nice to see John Doe and John Densmore speak and give praise. And cool to hear that Taylor Hawkins was at all of the infamous shows during the original incarnation. I liked that Densmore and Chaney mentioned Eric. And it was nice to see Perry give a shout out to Karyn Cantor.

Too bad Casey and Eric weren't there.

Perry is a riot. Wasn't there a cassette bootleg years ago from Pizza Hut or something! Is that the pizza joint he was talking about?

Why would the hangers-on mention the 2 creative forces behind the band?

Ok, I didn't see that, I just saw her sending one of them to take pictures. But what really creeped me out is how she smiles at the camera, she looks like a psycho
