I'm not sure I want to take the time to post a whole carefully spelled out set of rules. I'll think about it. I think we all know what to do. I just wanted to make sure everyone knew to do what it is we know how to do.

I gotta say, I like having a politics/news forum. I also like having the "art you like/make" forum. I think sonny had the forum thing figured out. That worked very smoothly. Just throwing everything in a general forum would be chaotic, and things would get lost and forgotten too quickly. Xiola got a lot of posts, and I expect that this place could get pretty busy fast.

I think that Pandemonium's idea of a FAQ is probably not a good one for a few reasons: when you stipulate rules, it can encourage a certain kind of person to mess with them, "for lulz". One of the reasons Sonny's board was so great is that he found a way to strike a balance between freedom of expression and keeping the worst of the banal, childish, stupidities from taking over the board. Borderline cases will always be a tough call (cf. LarryB), but it's in the interests of the board administrators not to "play all their cards at once", as it were, and instead just say "Mutual respect and a basic sense of decorum is all I ask" and then play it by ear from there.

No disrespect to Sonny, but I think it's shitty of him not to link here (he said he refused to on his xiola blog). Like, why the fuck not? Nothing against Sonny but I don't get it, despite Mike closing the thread on JA.org the links are still there for people to find this place. If you are going to close your site at least give everyone the chance to keep in touch. If I closed my site GrungeReport.net, if another site seeked to replace it, I'd link to it for the sake of the community.

These places remind me of bars or pubs. The regulars you kind of put up with a bit more, even if they have oddities or quirks, and can get out of hand. But, yeah, treat others like you would to someone face.

What's happened to the adverts??? This place sucks the big one.

Xiola.org was a great site. I thank Sonny immensely for that. BUT having said that......OMG..Get over it. It was just a site. I'm over there reading his blog. What's up his ass? Why so dramatic? Like the fact when he had all those Avery interviews and let them seep out little by little. I think Sonny may have taken himself a bit too seriously.

Yeah, his Q&A is a little much.

I talked to Sonny last night. He and I are square I suppose.

After running that site for as long as he did I understand him having a certain feeling of self-importance.

Plus. he never got to take a break from all of this like I did. I think I can understand his headspace. This can be a draining task.

So Sonny says Hoka can't moderate a forum.

I've never given it much thought, but, how hard can it be?

And if everyone from Xiola came here, and do the same thing they did there, what would the difference be?
