Agree 100%. A live performance of Underground in a sweaty, seedy, cramped nightclub shot like this would be sweet.Tyler Durden wrote:Okay, the more I think about it and read the comments here, they should have made a video for a TGEA single that looks like this:
THIS is the best official video the band has released since 1997.

the video doesn't piss me off.

It's not bad. I recently listened to the album straight through for the first time in a couple months. I really enjoyed it. I enjoy it more while listening to it that I do in hind site.
Re: Underground video premieres Jan 25th on VEVO
i agree with this post 100%. is it the best thing they've ever done? of course not. but its real good. and if they had stayed a band all these years, with the original 4 or a replacement bass player or a series of replacement bass players, and consistently put out music this strong with visuals like this, they'd be praised for a great 25 year career. put another way, if ja 1.0 through p4p through hard charger through the live vibe of relapse had continued on that arc instead of all the hiccups and lack of new music (except strays) over the succeeding 14 years and this was the latest, again, i think that objectively no jane's lover could really complain. good on them indeed. i'll have an open (and un-sober) mind for the wellmont show and i think its reasonable to look forward to something really good.hokahey wrote:If you dont like this video I question what aspects of Jane's Addiction you like to begin with and why. That may sound snobbish but I'm dead serious. That's a fucking outstanding video. Perry looks like he did around 1996 with that wardrobe. Very "Hardcharger-esque" from Letterman and Stern. Dave's hair looks like it did around then too. Makes you wonder if someone had the intention of making the band look like they did when that person last thought they were cool. The video is directed extremely well, Perry's moves are great, the sexiness is again outstanding as in all of their recent videos...
Had you shown me that 10-15 years ago I would have been off the charts stoked. An album with that and Hardcharger would have been a great foundation for a great Jane's album.
This song, accompanied with this video, is the best thing they've done in 15 years. Period. Good on them (even if it's just one song/video) because I NEVER thought I'd be able to say that.
Also good on them for not fucking up the video for the best song on the album.

It's OK. I prefer the ETTL video though which I thought was a pretty cool video despite most here think it wasn't.
Oh well.
Come tour Europe!!!

I don't like it. It's boring and pointless. I feel that a lot of people here say that they like it because it isn't as worse as they expected it to be. That is not enough.
Re: Underground video premieres Jan 25th on VEVO
boring video and except for having a fondness for the people involved, i can't think of an aspect i like of jane's in 2012hokahey wrote:If you dont like this video I question what aspects of Jane's Addiction you like to begin with and why. I guess I can see why people are calling it boring, but that's a video and song I'm proud to see the name Jane's Addiction attached to. I'm not sure how else to put it.
Re: Underground video premieres Jan 25th on VEVO
I love the song, and the more I like the video more and more with every viewing. It's totally cool and Perry actually looks fuckin cool for a change!
Re: Underground video premieres Jan 25th on VEVO
why the fuck do they even do a video? where will it be shown?
Re: Underground video premieres Jan 25th on VEVO

that song is almost tolerable.. and then the chorus.
Re: Underground video premieres Jan 25th on VEVO
I like the video, it's not great but it's cool enough. This is one of the best songs on the CD. the more I listen the more I like. So I'm glad they put this video out. This is the style they are going for, so fuck it I'll embrace it.
So the real question for me is, What is underground any more? JA sure isn't, tats aren't, alternative isn't. So what the fuck is underground?

If I had to present an argument I'd say it's a mentality.LJF wrote:I like the video, it's not great but it's cool enough. This is one of the best songs on the CD. the more I listen the more I like. Re: Underground video premieres Jan 25th on VEVO
I guess. It just seems that there isn't much underground anymore. But really what the fuck do I know, I'm a 40 year old who is out of touch with that stuff. Thinking back to the 80's & 90's it just seemed there was more underground. In the end I guess you are right it's a mentality more then a thing.hokahey wrote:If I had to present an argument I'd say it's a mentality.LJF wrote:I like the video, it's not great but it's cool enough. Re: Underground video premieres Jan 25th on VEVO
But why are you proud? They are just standing there playbacking a song, Perry has a silly hat and for some reason it reminds people of the old Perry? And then all those characters, I dunno, why are they even there in the first place? They have no meaning and sure as hell don't add anything.hokahey wrote:I guess I can see why people are calling it boring, but that's a video and song I'm proud to see the name Jane's Addiction attached to. But I don't want to sound like a real hater: I liked the ETTL video a lot more. That had a more artistic feeling to it and was fun to watch.
Re: Underground video premieres Jan 25th on VEVO
I think you're missing the point. The club seems to be representative of a 1920's speak easy which was the "underground" at the time. I personally love the era. I love the look of the band. You can could even really read in to the theme as having an underlying message that Jane's Addiction is timeless, has always been "underground" and always will be "underground".pandarve666 wrote:But why are you proud? And based on your critique, you must not like 99% of music videos.
Re: Underground video premieres Jan 25th on VEVO
i think the problem is that to really get across the vibe of that time, and that type of club, they probably would have needed to use a longer song. As it stands, it was just Jane's rocking out the majority of the time and didn't reallty dig too far into what the whole vibe of the place was supposed to be.
Sure, you know what it was hoka, but only because you have an interest in that timeframe. For the rest of us, it was just another place with a stage.
