Underground video premieres Jan 25th on VEVO
Re: Underground video premieres Jan 25th on VEVO
Great video! Perry did absolutely nothing wrong/embarrassing here, and his outfit was nice. Like someone else mentioned, he looks very 1996 here. Love it. The only thing I DIDN'T like was the poker table being flipped over, which was pure cheese...but other than that the video is a success.

Easily the best video they have done from TGEA or Strays. Perry looks and acts super cool.
My only complaint is the editing; to me, it didn't bring out the band's performance the way it could have. It didn't SELL the song enough. That being said, still the best video Jane's Addiction has released since the "Jane Says" video promoting Kettle Whistle.

I think that's a pretty fair and accurate critique actually.

I like the video. Could have done some more cool storyline type shots but there's no Perry "sassy shoulders" type gay movements in this video, which is good. It's also nice to see no green screen.
Re: Underground video premieres Jan 25th on VEVO
Jane's and Capitol only released two videos from Strays...back when the band appeared to be more of a viable commodity and the music industry was still afloat.
When you consider that, it begs the question: Why did they produce 3 cheap videos for TGEA instead of pooling all three budgets together to make one superior video?

because videos don't sell records anymore. who really still spends money on videos anymore?Tyler Durden wrote:

I agree with you. But why make three of them?creep wrote:because videos don't sell records anymore. who really still spends money on videos anymore?Tyler Durden wrote:

You also forget that Jane's broke up before they were done promoting the album. "The Riches" was supposed to be the third single off of Strays.

no idea. i guess teaming up with these sites (vevo and playboy) pays for the video. it might sell a few tickets to the tour.Tyler Durden wrote:I agree with you. to me any video's are meh...band plays to the recording, show sexy girls....back to the band....more sexy girls scantily clad...
boring.
really boring.

I just think one strong video over three average ones would help give a band a better image and branding.creep wrote:no idea. i guess teaming up with these sites (vevo and playboy) pays for the video. it might sell a few tickets to the tour.Tyler Durden wrote:I agree with you. These guys have so much personality and they never do anything with it.
They could easily just have Todd Newman film and edit something for them that could be done on no money and yet look amazing. Instead they blow 200,000 dollars to pretend to play the song with very little else going on.
I just don't understand. If it's a time thing, then don't be in the video. Lots of videos don't featuring anyone playing any instruments.
Re: Underground video premieres Jan 25th on VEVO
exactly....send Todd out filming the seedier sides of the city...flash a few frames of the band in between....bam. Done.

Re: Underground video premieres Jan 25th on VEVO
certainly the best Jane's video since '97. Simple, related to the song lyrics, little in the way of embarrassing posing. The poker game schtick may have been a bit overdone (at the expense of showing the band, as someone has already mentioned). I hope they understand that organic sets lend better to their personalities and music than a green screen, now.

dave at a porn stars house
chris at a comic book store
steve at a smoke shop
it's fine how it is.

No, we're talking about leaving the band out entirely.creep wrote:perry at louis vuittonRomeo wrote:exactly....send Todd out filming the seedier sides of the city...flash a few frames of the band in between....bam. Done.

Re: Underground video premieres Jan 25th on VEVO
it's a decent video by comparison.
jane's addiction has always made live performance videos. some of their best were live performance, so it's always gonna be just that.
the song is strong compared to what we've come to expect from this band and it's various solo shit pile.
it's amazing to me, how low this band has sunk, that this video is good.

Re: Underground video premieres Jan 25th on VEVO
Okay, the more I think about it and read the comments here, they should have made a video for a TGEA single that looks like this:
THIS is the best official video the band has released since 1997.

Isn't embarrassing which as about as much as I can ask for at this point. Perry looks so much better with the buzz cut, I hope he keeps it. Also, does anyone notice Perk at :46 in the chorus hit the crash when he is supposed to be hitting the floor tom? Guy must have been quite baked

I'm surprised Dave put on a suit jacket.
It was fine and dandy

Re: Underground video premieres Jan 25th on VEVO
It's a cool video. It's better than the ultra gay A Little Sadness. Better then Dogstar, Just B/C, Irrsistble Force, true nature.. They could've done something like Cursed Female. But than everyone would have been complaining about that too! It's totally cool. And Todd Newmans' video (no offense to him I think he's funny as shit on Dark Matter), but his videos are kinda amateuresque.
Re: Underground video premieres Jan 25th on VEVO
Since we're critiquing everything... 'Amateuresque' is not a word, you could've just said 'amateurish'...
