Like I said in the Great Escape Artist thread, I like this song less than when I heard it initially. I still love the chorus, but man the verses are just brutal melodically and lyrically. Whole thing sounds put together. I still really like the second chorus with the melodic playing the follows it.

It sounds like that because it was emailed back and forth and put together on some laptops with Protools on them more than likely. Easy to cut and paste music with that.

Dave said he wrote the music for it in the studio. He just had an acoustic guitar and a bass and a click track for tempo and 'wrote it on the spot'.

For those outside the US borders and thus unable to see the "Behind (the scenes of) Irresistible Force" video on Rollingstone.com it is now available on YouTube as well.

Did anyone else see the shots of Perry in that Rollingstone clip from the video set?

I'm worried he's going to make his performance in the Just Because video look like "Stop!" era Perry.

he's already made the whole strays era look like a black flag reunion
Well, compared to the photo above it seemed like a huge improvement...

Is this close enough?:

Maybe someone in the Jane's camp has been lurking here and when Perry found out what some were saying, he thought "I'll show those fuckers!"

Hey, doesn't Jane's Addiction sound like a band who should be lead by Eric Avery musically, and then go out and do all sorts of shows that lend themselves well to their credibility?

It's funny, because they justified having all of their songs in shows and commercials after their '04 breakup because they owed Capitol and lawyers money.

i don't have a problem with them having songs in shows. i'm sure they don't make money on it. it's probably the opposite and the record company pays for it. seems like good promotion. commercials....that's another story.

I'm 99% certain they get paid for it. The record co shops songs around for commercials, movies, tv etc.

I think whether the band is making money or not off something like this is a moot point. Having your song in terrible shows like CSI or Entourage is cheesy as hell, regardless of who is cashing the cheques.

I don't have any problem with the song being used for this show, because that's the type of song it is. Same thing with the video. It's not like the song is being debased, because it's a very poppy, soaring, mainstream rock tune. The fact that they made the song makes the video and commercial make perfect sense. It's just part and parcel of making that type of music. So, if I'm gonna complain, I'll just complain about the song, because it's assumed that all of that other stuff goes with it.

I don't know who gets paid for what, but this definitely serves as a commercial, especially since the band's name and the name of the song actually appear on the screen at one point.

If they just want to write music scores for TV shows, they should just do that.

Perhaps if they wrote songs for the music listening public, the music listening public would buy it. Then they wouldn't need such lame product placement.

Just a thought.
