someone just posted this unpublished youtube vid on reddit. sounds like a snippet of the studio version?:

It sounds like U2, not Jane’s.

Okay, maybe Bon Jovi.

Certainly nothing like NS or Ritual.

The production is a little clean, but comparing this to Bon Jovi is just dumb.

And no, it’s not Ritual or NS. How in the world could it? But it DOES sound like Janes. And it sounds great. Have you listened to the full song?

I’m exaggerating with Jovi.

But it sounds clean, commercial and not remotely unusual or odd. Ergo it doesn’t sound like Jane’s to me.

Very much a Strays sound to my ears.

I’ve heard the full version from last night’s gig, yes.

I’m not hating on them at all and I really like True Love.

Holy cow- I wasn’t expecting this clip.

It production sounds very similar to the latest porno songs- I suspect they are using the same studio/producer for this.

If anything I’m getting more of a ritual vibe

Also I feel the guitar is really integral to this song. This had to have been totally different before Dave got involved

I asked Pete and put it in one of the porno threads. I’m too lazy to do it right now

Fucking hell, still can’t believe I was there and stood right in front of Eric. What a night. Been to a million gigs and it’s awesome that memorable ones like this can still happen.

Maybe it’s the production but Dave’s overdubs sound super cheesy to me, that’s why I think of Strays in particular.

Perry’s voice doesn’t sound like it has any effects or echo on. Again, like Strays.

Admittedly I can’t hear the bassline very well but it doesn’t sound like a groove (Mountain Song, Whores, Aint No Right) etc.

Hopefully my opinion changes when I hear the full-length studio version!

“Ted” once again proves how essential Navarro is to this band. Neither sub could come close.

The Lolla doc and this UK show took me back to NS from first note to last…the era, the politics, the art, the music, the alt movement….a masterpiece. My fave album of all time. Three day, as mentioned, is the best song in the broad definition of R&R.

Navarro looks great….singing along, air drumming, laser focused, and showing real appreciation. He looks somewhat boyish here. I think this tour will get a lot better…especially for him

I'm glad Perry has loosened up on the botox and surgery. It's less difficult to look at his face now than it was a few years ago.

I'll see them in Madrid, in a room for 1500 people. I can't wait. My only time live with them was on the Strays tour, 21 years ago.

Anyway, I love Kettle, but for me it will be a blow if they don't start with Up the beach, it's a song that moves me, that I carry in my heart.

Strays Tour 21 years ago just made me feel really old, haha. I agree with your feelings on Up the Beach. Kettle Whistle is fine and all, but hearing Up the Beach start a show is like the official warning that its about to go down.

Damn, we're old. I met Jane's in '92, a year later than I should have. In '91 they came through my town, but I didn't know them. The Strays tour, an album I hated at the time but learned to appreciate over time, was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I saw them in a room for 1000 people, and they weren't the old Jane's, the ones from bootlegs I had seen a thousand times like Milan or Detroit, but they were in good shape. Since then they have hardly come near Europe except for festivals, and I have a very clear policy about that. When they announced the Madrid date my heart skipped a beat. It will be very exciting to say goodbye to them, to see them once again, to pay my respects to Avery for everything he has given me. Anyway, I will cry like a baby, probably.

And yes, Up the beach should be an inexcusable ritual in every Jane's concert, as much as Three days or Mountain song. It's the perfect entrance to paradise. For me, the definitive rock'n'roll intro, above even my revered Plainsong.
