There’s a fair amount of Jane’s in the trailer

First ep is great. Pretty loaded with janes.
Re: New lollapalooza doc drops may 21 on paramount +
Just watched all 3 episodes. 1st episode is good with some Perry/Jane's quick footage which I haven't seen before. Was hoping for more Jane's on stage footage from lolla 91 though.
Re: New lollapalooza doc drops may 21 on paramount +
But... quickly lost interest with the moving to Chicago era.
Re: New lollapalooza doc drops may 21 on paramount +
I was there for 1,2,4, and 7.
This documentary was about a cool fucking idea that turned into money. And not that there's anything wrong with that! Just sucks we get old.

Nice to see Perry being celebrated as the icon he is in this. Lollapalooza and to a lesser extent Janes are not just HoF worthy, but history book worthy. They played such a huge role in ushering a cultural revolution that reverberated everywhere.
Hopefully as Perry’s career enters its final arc, it’s one of total redemption and celebration of his and Jane’s importance.

Lots of Mark Geiger and some Ted Gardner too featured. Not no Casey for those wondering!

Been to 10 of these things and goddamnit, that wasn’t long enough to cover it all.
Glad we got something though.
Too many bands sit on tapes and do nothing.
This was good.
Thank you, Perry.

It’s really good and of course episodes 1 and 2 are my favorite. I’m shocked they spent as much time on the early traveling years.
Glad the Chicago stuff is like a coda to the story
Episode 1 has really great footage — I think there’s a backstage clip of Perry singing and Dave on a piano

First episode did well to illustrate the deep underground roots of the LA scene and how it flourished in small but intense circles. Also JA's innovation that made separation from the norm. Shots of Jane's were just otherworldly. They were my Beatles.

As I'm watching this I'm looking back with regrets for checking out after the '92 Lolla. That I let my co-workers at the time influence my decision making. They were meathead jock mostly metal fans that if they weren't my co-workers I'd have nothing to do with them because they were the morons driving around in their big trucks throwing beer cans at me and my friends as we were skating down the streets. Hearing them talk about how they were going in '93 and how I wouldn't enjoy spending hours around people like them, I chose not to go.
Now I wish I would've just sucked it up and went. Screw the Lolla's that came after '94 though.

They talked a lot about the very first show in AZ, but failed to mention the Perry/Dave fight lol.
Re: New lollapalooza doc drops may 21 on paramount +
We need a legit warts and all Jane’s documentary with Rare footage
Re: New lollapalooza doc drops may 21 on paramount +
I agree, but something that touches on their impact too. Reznor and Morello did a good job of putting things in some perspective in the doc. Casey is uniquely qualified to do this. I think she could without torching them, and she might have some yet unseen footage, notes, and recordings and tons of anecdotal info on long since available interviews, video, recordings. Plus her perspective on the relationships with each other, record companies, press, and fans would be fascinating.

This was awesome and as hoka says, gives PF the kudos he is due. The fact that no new footage was used makes me think, we have seen it all already and nothing unseen is out there..

I still haven't got to see the Jane's show at Tinley Park lolla I was at. It's not rare but I could probably put my 2 vcr's together and edit some cool shit.

Watched all three today, and really enjoyed it. Kinda choked up at the Ice T talking about “Cop Killer” and playing for majority white audiences as well as the respect he conveyed for Perry RE the Don’t Call Me duet they did. He cited that they did it at the end of the festival, but I swear I saw them together at Irvine. Man, memory is a funny thing.
It’s worth at least jumping to the end of the last episode as it features Jane’s and then Dave and Perry walking offstage with arms around each other.

The first two episodes were pretty cool. But the last 35 minutes or so of the last episode is pretty much vomit inducing. Half of it seems like a promo put together by the new management of the festival. And a lot of the talk (including Perry’s words) go against the original values and ethos of what the festival had set out to be. I don’t feel that this makes me old and out of touch; quite the contrary.

They absolutely played it at Irvine. Funny, as to the Dave an Perry walking offstage together, it looked to me that Dave was directing him offstage.blackcoffee wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 4:39 pmWatched all three today, and really enjoyed it.
