Martyn has bailed on the Porno tour
He really blindsided me with the way he sets the table in this post…

lame
I wonder if this had anything to do with the tour cancellation.

At least he’s on the new recordings and it’s all on good terms. That’s a huge win.
Thank fuck I flew out to Chicago to see them last year.

We can't ever have full reunions lol.

Re: Martyn has bailed on the Porno tour
So this was one of the things Pete told me that I was not allowed to repeat yet. Martyn is definitely not telling the full story but at least he’s being classy.
Hearing some things about Martyn reminded me of an interaction I had with him once. I don’t know if everyone remembers when he had a little website going and posted his song with Josh Klinghoffer on it. But I offered my amateur skills to build him something more robust to help him promote his music. I spent weeks on it. I was very proud of it and was excited to show him. He was super negative about it and so I killed it and we never corresponded again. In fairness, I was not a professional web designer. But he was familiar with my existing work, and it shouldn’t have been a surprise that it did not look like a corporate website. And when someone volunteers to do something for you just to try and help and support your art it’s a little weird to not even say thank you, let alone be a bit rude.
Anyway, I’m not intending to be gossipy. Just saying that the descriptions I’ve heard of some of his attitude and behavior is reflective of this interaction.
Bring on Watt.

Was it disagreements with Perry?
Re: Martyn has bailed on the Porno tour
Well, whatever the real reason behind his decision at least he had the decency to let the fans know in advance . As Hoka said, the post does comes across as classy.
Re: Martyn has bailed on the Porno tour
Nothing specific that I’m aware of. Everything I have heard, which is admittedly limited, paint a picture that Perry is trying to do all of these things the right way to cap the legacies. Look at how close he and Eric have become again. Eric doesn’t suffer a lot of bullshit.
Re: Martyn has bailed on the Porno tour
Disappointing, but I suppose on brand?
I’d have thought it might be the situation with his wife?
I’m glad he reconnected and recorded. Looking forward to the songs

Re: Martyn has bailed on the Porno tour
Something was definitely going on with him when the tour was first announced too.
A few shows and songs with the original lineup- better than nothing!
I’m excited to see Watt and hopefully they can do a full record with him

Re: Martyn has bailed on the Porno tour
is it a wife thing? her health hasn't been good (honestly don't know if they are still together or not)
Re: Martyn has bailed on the Porno tour
Met a guy at the Belasco show who said he's Perk's drum tech on the west coast...I got the impression that they were childhood friends. He was saying that Martyn threw a bit of a fit when he found out he wasn't originally part of that show. He thought it should be the original members and so they made the changes. Dunno, but I would think he wouldn't want to leave his wife right now either.

I think it has anything to do with her it’s in an indirect way.SR wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 5:53 amMet a guy at the Belasco show who said he's Perk's drum tech on the west coast...I got the impression that they were childhood friends. Re: Martyn has bailed on the Porno tour
Perry said in an interview last year that Martyn straight up told him he was miffed about not being invited to play that festival in Florida, and that conversation opened the door to the LA and Chicago shows.SR wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 5:53 amMet a guy at the Belasco show who said he's Perk's drum tech on the west coast...I got the impression that they were childhood friends. Re: Martyn has bailed on the Porno tour
Methinks Martyn doesn't really get his just due for his phenomenal work on the first Porno album and in the years after that clearly he wasn't really respected, not being first choice for seemingly any of the reunions up until recently. I have NO idea about his character but I appreciate the way he conveyed this message to the fans. Disappointing
Re: Martyn has bailed on the Porno tour
True.. the bass lines on the first record are incredible and tasteful and really gave P4P their own identity. Plus Martyn looked super cool up there on stage back in the day.
Its a shame he won't be involved in the tour .. But my guess would be - (and what these problems usually are) Money..

I don’t think it was about respect. I think it was more about how much you motivate people to want to be around you. I respect a lot of people in my industry that I have little desire to work with.Essence_Smith wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 9:30 amMethinks Martyn doesn't really get his just due for his phenomenal work on the first Porno album and in the years after that clearly he wasn't really respected, not being first choice for seemingly any of the reunions up until recently. Tomayto TomAHto my friend I think it's the same thing in a way but I hear ya...I just think in general Watt gets more props than people give to Martyn but when I think what really helped P4P sound unique its largely due to what the rhythm section of Perkins & Martyn was doingHokahey wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 10:06 amI don’t think it was about respect.
