Good God's Urge 20 years old yesterday
Good God's Urge came out when I was living in Santa Cruz. It took a while to grow on me, but I think it has aged pretty well.
Decent write up here: http://diffuser.fm/porno-for-pyros-good ... niversary/
And the cover is reminiscent of when Perry involved himself in assemblage. While not nearly as intricate as the ritual cover, its a cool blend of physical and digital artifacts and effects.

Cool write up and I'm glad the album is getting recognition. I do think the writer misses the mark when he says Perry and Dave were the "Lennon and McCartney for the Lollapalooza generation". From '97 on, they have certainly been the strongest personalities in the band, which probably gives the impression to the general public that Jane's was creatively driven by their dynamic. That comparison is probably more apt for Perry and Eric, but ultimately, as we all know, the band was truly the sum of its parts live and creatively.
I can only speculate that the writer holds that perception because of what he has observed live during the various reunions. Kinda ironic, because Perry and Dave really did not have much onstage chemistry in 1.0. Like, it was not the traditional rock band thing with guitar player and singer cock rocking out front. Dave was very much lost in his instrument while Perry was lost in his own performance. Now dave is up front putting his leg up on a speaker while he rips a solo and Perry go up do the back to back thing with him. I can't think of any other band where the truth about why they were so great gets so muddled.

GGU came out right when I graduated college. Fuck I'm old! Sadly just a few years later Perry would lose his ability to write good lyrics! I also remember noticing a very big difference in the lyrics from p4p to GGU. Perry starting writing in more straightforward sentences beginning with GGU.

This and NS are my favorite JA related releases.

Yeah this was pretty much the point where it all stopped. Right after GGU was released.phenobarb_bambalam wrote:A few years!?! Generous as ever, I see!bman wrote: Sadly just a few years later Perry would lose his ability to write good lyrics!

Truth is, when I first heard it I was just getting clean, and didn't have a high opinion of it. I was thinking whatever thread ran through the songs was pretty thin, and the lyrics didn't resonate with me at first. I'd been expecting this album forever...with multiple listens, I began to appreciate it.

excellent moment

I would literally pay to go see a show where that's all that happened. Just 4 dudes, some acoustics, some hand claps here and there, singing songs.drifter wrote:excellent moment
But nope. Can't have anything genuine. It's gotta be a big rock n roll festival payday going through the motions and grabbing stripper ass.
