Re: some noname's cover of pfp
The album’s first single, “Diving Away,” is a cover of Porno For Pyros 1996 track “Porpoise Head.” Tricky explains:
"I toured with them in Australia in 1996. My daughter Mazy, who was about four years of age, was with us and she had frontman Perry Farrell wrapped round her little finger. He took all of us to Sealand in Australia. So there was me and Porno For Pyros all trying to get her pram onto the Australian metro. But how many big artists would do something beautiful like that? I think it speaks volumes about him. So I’ve got a lot of love for Perry Farrell and I’ve always wanted to cover one of his songs."

Re: some noname's cover of pfp
i didn't know he was in massive attack. i just knew him from perry.
Re: some noname's cover of pfp
I think I was in to Tricky before I was in to Jane's if I remember correctly. Maxinquaye is a classic.
Edit - nope. I thought Maxinquaye came out earlier than that.
I heard this cover a few days ago. Can't say I love it.

Oh sorry didn't mean to disrespect the guy. I mostly meant how lackluster this cover is. Why even record something if its so weak and so i dont give a fuck empty of emotions...
As for triphop and tricky himself, I think its one of those things where the English people fancy themselves the pioneers of new things in music a bit too much and end up pushing things that simply arent all that good or important.
Which results in their music press just shamelessly pushing things too hard that don't deserve the recognition. They have the credibility still because of the 60s and 70s british music invasion and the whole world still looks up to them. It only is fully put in context after a decade or two. Its laughable after 10-15 years how hard they tried to make one music genere after another happen and become big... britpop, triphop, drum n bass, jungle, garage, 2 step, dubstep etc

Trip Hop is pretty awesome, and Massive Attack are still a pretty big deal.

I saw a few Tricky shows on the maxinquaye and pre-millenium tension tours at irving plaza. i don't know from labels and i don't know precisely what trip hop is, but these were some very trippy shows with some very very heavy rock guitars doing a wall of noise mostly in the dark. very strong and memorable shows. among the best live shows i saw those years. i don't recall knowing that there was a perry connection at the time. i just knew guys at island and they sent me the records and i liked them so i got myself into irving for the shows.
