Los Fabulosos Cadillacs

#1 Post by Matov » Sun Feb 26, 2012 5:39 pm

I thought i'd start a new thread about this, instead of taking up space in the Janes Tour section.
Man, what a pleasant surprise to find some of you actually know AND like this band. Larry i suppose doesn't surprise me as much, with them being kinda big in other latin american countries...

I've seen them three times live, but none before their reunion. I missed them with what i think was their best lineup, during the Fabulosos Calavera/Marcha del Golaso Solitario era. They had who i believe to be one of the top guitarists in argentina currently, Ariel Minimal.

What i really really like about them is that, as is the case with janes/porno, once you start digging a little bit you'll find a really big and rich spectrum of related acts, in which the members either participated as projects or created during their time apart.

For instance their saxophone player, Sergio Rotman, started three really interesting bands, Cienfuegos, Mimi Maura and El Siempreterno.
Cienfuegos:

Mimi Maura is the band he started with his wife, singer Mimi Maura  :

He then created very recently, a punk/postpunk band with many cadillac members, including their drummer and former guitarist Ariel Minimal, called El Siempreterno:

Flavio, bass player and driving force behind LFC, made a ridiculous amount of records outside the band, ranging from an album with one of the godfathers of argentine metal, Ricardo Iorio of Almafuerte to other rythms and styles that go from reggae and ska, to Urugayan Murga and even rockabilly/surf rock:

(the kid on drums is his son Astor)

Singer Vicentico also made a handful of albums but he's a bit of a douche so i won't even bother making this post longer with any of his songs.

Ariel Minimal, who as i said is one of my favorite guitarists, has made a bunch of indie/folk records, and most notably has a hard rock/prog band called Pez. They kick serious ass:

hope you guys enjoy

I posted this in the Tour thread, so I'll start it here too:

Indeed, one of my favorites of all time!

Two of my favorite albums are Fabulosos Calavera and La Marcha del Golazo Solitario.

LFC are one of those bands I would do alot for to see them live in person.

I'm glad they're back together, although I'll say I was majorly bummed that Ariel Minimal wasn't a part of the reunion. At least I've got Pez to listen to.

To answer Larry, I discovered LFC through one of my absolute favorite bands, Fishbone.

Fishbone co-wrote "La Marcha....." with them and they also did a cover of "What's New Pussycat" with LFC:

Ever since ordering a copy of Fabulosos Calavera at my local record store, I've been hooked.

:thumb: Agreed! Like I said earlier, I was really disappointed he wasn't a part of the reunion.

At least we've got Pez and his solo albums.

I've seen them like 3 times live...first time was fine until the end when the sax player and Vicentico wouldn't let people touch them. But besides that it was an awesome show.
I haven't seen them reunited though
Other favorite bands that i loved seeing live: Bersuit Vergarabat and los Auténticos Decadentes. I loved the latter live, had so much fun

I actually was at that show. The crowd was great, we spent the whole show dancing and moshing. I was 13.

They became famous here with the song Matador (from the album Vasos Vacíos) and then with Mal Bicho (from Rey Azúcar). But Fabulosos Calavera is absolutely amazing. Last time I saw them before their break up was for their tour promoting La Marcha del Golazo Solitario. In that show, as I was moshing, I collided with a huge fat guy and I punched myself in the eye. I was sure that I had lost my eye. It felt like it blew up. But nah, it was ok (fortunately).

After their break up, I heard some Mimi Maura and Flavio y la Mandinga, but never got too into them, they just didn't fill my needs. I saw Vicentico solo act 2 or 3 times and Flavio a couple of times, and when they got together I was absolutely excited. Their second show in Chile after they got together was beautiful... I actually found it now in YouTube:

(at 14:40 you can find my favorite LFC song ever)

I was up front, in front of Flavio on the right side.

My 3 sisters are big LFC fans too... one of them lives in Argentina and went to La Plata for their first comeback show and my 2 other sisters actually went to Buenos Aires to catch one of their shows in Luna Park.

Los Fabulosos Cadillacs are the only Spanish-speaking band I listen to regularly. I also liked Bersuit, but while I like about 15% of the Bersuit album repertoire (most of which they play live anyway... their shows used to be amazing parties), there's not much from LFC that I don't like.

And thank you Matov for providing all those clips, there are many things there that I don't know and I will give them a listen soon

Thanks larry, hope you'll find a thing or two that you'll enjoy there
Perkana, Los Autenticos Decadentes are one of the most fun live acts here in Argentina. Nothing too fancy music wise, but they sure know how to get people dancing. Bersuit on the other hand i've always hated. Not sure why, they just piss me off...
Thoreau where are you from? its not very usual for me to find people outside buenos aires who know, let alone like Pez and Minimal. If you like Pez, maybe you should listen to Los Natas...

I'm from Florida. I don't know anyone personally who knows of LFC at all. I try to turn people on to them all the time.

I feel I'm just lucky I found out about them and some of the solo projects related to them. I'm actually listening to "Los Rayos" now.

I'll check Los Natas out, thanks.

Yeah, I've only seen them once, Los Decadentes played with Bersuit and Babasónicos. Decadentes were my favorite, they do know how to work a crowd into dancing and singing
I don't know, I've seen Bersuit twice or three times, I like their music and I think they're fun to watch :noclue:
Btw, I don't know why both the times I've seen LFC or Bersuit, I've been in danger of getting crushed. People become nuts during their shows, especially during the first songs
