I love that album. I never tire of it. :thumb:
Eh, I've seen several Beck tours. Last one I saw was Midnite Vultures.

My favorite Beck album is Mutations. Some of the best/worst/weirdest times in my life coincide with that album.

I love this outtake:

That's an album I'll have to revisit. I really didn't care for it when it came out. At that time, I just wasn't it feeling it.

Neither was I, but situations resulted in me having more exposure and giving it more of a chance and realizing it was his best.

Impossible to name just one for me, so I went with a top 10 that didn't include Jane's. If you were to ask me the same question 1 week from now, I'd probably have an entirely different list.

I was in a restaurant last night and The Death of Åse came on. That was actually the song that I posted as the requiem when sonny self-immolated.

One of the very last things I remember on NYE is getting back to my friend's house and extremely drunkenly ( :jasper: ) demanding that his wife play "In The Hall of The Mountain King," and "Arabian Dance." She likes classical music, so I was kind of upset that she didn't have it. :noclue: Judging from what was in the stereo the next day, I ended up playing Toots & The Maytals, so it was all groovy. :wiggle:

I'd have to put The Cure's Pornography in mine along with NS.

Pet Sounds will most likely always be my number one - perfect.

After that, in no order, it would be Ritual, Blood on the Tracks, Odelay and Tusk. I really liked the 1st Bon Iver record and The Music's 1st album is pretty stand-out too.

On the Beck thing, i used to swear by that guy... seen him a ton of times live from '94 onwards but he completely lost me some 6-7 years ago - i think '03 was the last time i saw him.

Yeah, me too, except he lost me more like a decade ago. I think the $cientology made him go lame, especially marrying a hardcore lifer. Seems like his old non-$cientologist gf was the only thing keeping him cool. In any case, it works out in a way, because now I don't want to give him my money anyways.

he's a scientologist now? hmm, didn't know that. I thought he'd be too smart to get mixed up in that shit

That's what everyone thought when it was just a rumor, then some reporter found records of Beck's financial contributions to the business, and called him on it during an interview.

His father is a $cientologist, and Beck married one who was brought up in, so he's balls deep in that shit. Pretty much undercuts all the snarky observations about other people that he puts in his songs.

Yeah, Leigh Limon. With hindsight, she takes on a Casey-like role in Beck's career... she was cool as hell and it definitely went downhill after they split - or at least after Sea Change which i think was essentially a Leigh Limon inspired break-up record.

well, to be honest I know very little about scientology, I just know all the bad rumours about it being all about money and the alien nonsense and their views on psychiatry etc. But maybe they're able to do some good in between being whacked out of their minds where they actually help people, dunno. I'm just thinking that intelligent people like Travolta and Lisa Marie Presley etc must have joined for a reason. Especially Presley does not seem like the easily manipulated type to me, so there must something cool about it :noclue:

Matz, you shoule take one of their "free personality" tests to find out.
Once they have determined your weaknesses they will threaten you with them while at the same time offer to help you sort them out.

I do see your point though. Why seemingly intelligent and educated people would go for it, is a mystery. Maybe they get a huge tax break. Maybe the money they give to the church as charitable donations gives them a huge tax break or something. :noclue:

 sure, I'll get right on that!

I tried to research a little bit on why and how they can attract celebrities and it seems, from what former insiders say, that guys like Travolta and Tom Cruise get a much different treatment in the organization than a guy who walks in off the street. The celebrities are pampered in every way and are walking scientology success stories that attracts people around the world who then get abused mercilessly

My only interaction with Scientology was back when I went to the San Francisco Gay Pride parade (with my girlfriend!) in 1995. As we were leaving, we were rounded up by some woman with a clipboard wanting to know if we would answer some questions. We said sure and were taken to their office.

After being asked a few questions, she had me fill out a 20 word True/False and multiple choice questionnaire that mostly had to do with how depressed I was and how often I used prescribed pills. When she went over the answers I gave on the questionnaire, so said I was showing signs for depression, which was odd to me because I lied on every answer I gave, by checking the most positive option available on the paper. Once that was done she wanted to know if I wanted "my levels" checked and she pulled out an E-Meter. Not knowing what it was at the time and just wanting to get out of there, I declined.

Before we left, my girlfriend filled out a paper and for a reason I no longer remember, put my parents address and phone number down on it. To this day, my parents are still getting junk mail from the San Francisco Scientology Center sent to them and up until a year or two ago was still getting phone calls asking to talk to my girlfriend and we've been broken up since 1999.

Unfortunately, no.

They're just a business selling salvation for the souls of aliens we all carry inside.
