#1 Post by farrellgirl99 » Thu Jan 19, 2012 5:29 pm

mine is The Downward Spiral.

Nothing's Shocking is my second favorite, but i don't think TDS can be beat for me.

Sad noir lullabies. No contest. Genius songs, genius arrangements (Nelson Riddle), genius idea (this album is something of a coming-out party for long-playing records. It's also the first real perfection of the vocal concept album, which Sinatra invented and had been working on for many years), genius playing by top classical and jazz players (like trumpeter Harry Sweets Edison, who was giving his own mic and freedom to improvise wherever he wanted), genius engineering, and genius singing.

Still, I'm more happy picking favorite albums from various genres, because different types of music have different goals, so comparing them in terms of quality can be a largely futile exercise.

Ritual.

My god what an album.

Especially when you're 18, living off the beach, in love, and getting high all the time. It's as good a soundtrack as they come.

Yes there are many contendors to the throne, but none that moved me the way that album did and no other will again.

Nothing's Shocking.

Surfer Rosa, Nunsexmunkrock (Nina Hagen), Burning From The Inside (Bauhaus), Ende Neu (Einstuerzende Neubauten), Everybody's in Show-Biz (Kinks)... are generally my top six (ignoring retardedly popular albums that everyone kinda likes, like Sergeant Peppers or Houses of the Holy...)

Houses of the holy is a good album though.

I'm not that much a fan of sgt Peppers.

How can there be one favourite. There are many good albums out there.

Primus - Frizzle Fry
Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking
Sex Pistols - Bollocks
Ratm - Ratm
RHCP - BSSM
Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland
Black Sabbath - Sabotage
Pink Floyd - Live at Pompeii (not an official album, but fuckin' hell, great music)
Kyuss - Sky Valley
Ozric Tentacles - Erpland
The Meters - First
Serge Gainsbourg - Histoire de Melody Nelson

Those are all pretty good albums, but depends on mood/season, whatever

I'm not trying to fool anyone :hehe:

White Pony by the Deftones is definitely up there for me too. and in terms of new-ish albums that are contenders Treats by Sleigh Bells blows me away every time I listen to it.

Yeah. A lot of the ones you listed are good (we don't agree about Floyd and a couple others of those are weird... but it's all good), and I guess I should add Slint's Spiderland to my list of albums that I can always go back to and never fail to enjoy.

Don't know, but this is kinda like musical perfection to me:

It's a taste thing I guess... that doesn't do it for me. I forgot about Captain Beefheart's Safe As Milk. I love that album.

The Dandy Warhols Come Down

Nine Inch Nails, The Fragile

Pearl Jam, No Code

and

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Ritual is my favorite album released during my lifetime.

Fighting for that position are albums by The Grateful Dead, Beck, Lou Reed, The Congos, Augustus Pablo, King Tubby, Lee Perry, and Black Moth Super Rainbow.

My favorite rock album from before I was born is The Velvet Underground & Nico. The toughest competition against that album comes from The Doors, although I can't seem to pick a favorite Doors album (three way tie between the debut, Morrison Hotel, and L.A. Woman).

Those are the best three...even though none of my favorites SONGS are on Morrison Hotel, it's still probably my favorite album of theirs....weird, right?

for some reason he doesn't find it nearly as funny as i do when i sing him this with slightly updated lyrics.
