sinep's video game thread

#1 Post by sinep » Thu Dec 29, 2011 9:35 pm

not to be confused with hoka's video game thread!

-i have ps3
-i usually take about 6 months to play a game, and only play for like 4 or 5 hours a week, that being said, i'm amateur at best.
-i have a 25 dollar gift card to best buy

recent things i've played:
-bioshock, it was a lot of fun, i haven't played the second, is it anywhere near as good?
-the first arkham asylum, i thought it sucked.
-all of the assasins creeds, other than the newest one. i've loved them all, but i usually wait for the price to drop on games because there are so many that i haven't played, so i probably wont be buying revelations while it's still 50 dollars.
-red dead redemption, probably the best game i've ever played. 10/10.

things i've considered or people have been telling me are cool:
-resident evil 5: i LOVE killing zombies. i may have played every other resident evil game. everyone tells me you need two people in order for it to be fun though. will i have to invite a friend over to play with me? i'm not doing any of that "friends with some random person online" crap. can i play it alone and enjoy it?
-fallout: never played anything from the fallout series, but the concept seems cool. i'm concerned that it'll be too slow, and too much just talking, roll playing, etc. etc.

sooooooooooo, what should i get?

I'm pretty lame in that I really only play FPS.

I just got Battlefield 3 and I'm surprised at how much fun I'm having with this game. I'd kinda thought I was getting over video games altogether and this is the first game in a while that I look forward to playing when I have time.

- Yes, Bioshock 2 is good, but wait for the third entry in the series, Bioshock: Infinite instead.
- If you played every other Resident Evil game in the series, and enjoyed part 4, then you'll still enjoy 5. It's not as good as 4, but still worth playing 1-Player.
- You might want to look into Dead Island if you like slaying zombies.
- Fallout might be a tad too slow for you, but it's so engrossing you'll probably end up loving it. I'd say just skip it and get Skyrim instead.

I'll recommend you some other quality PS3 titles in no particular order:
1. ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection (two PS2 classics now in HD...these games are ART)
2. Uncharted (series)
3. God of War III
4. Heavy Rain
5. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
6. Mirror's Edge
7. L.A. Noire
8. Portal 2
9. Resistance (series)
10. Yakuza 4
11. LIMBO
12. Braid
13. Flower
14. Super StarDust HD
15. Soldner-X 2: Final Prototype
16. After Burner Climax
17. Sonic CD

Those are some quality titles. :thumb:

BTW go to gametrailers.com and watch reviews for any of these games to see if they peak your interest. Usually, their video reviews make you want to play the game immediately. Glad I could fucking help. :tiphat:

NO. That game is buggy as hell. Definitely deserves the scores it received.

I bowed out of the video/computer game world in the era of Rick Dangerous and Gianna sisters, so I'm not completely up to date here

That's okay. All Sinep needs is Hoka and myself to fulfill his nerdy needs.

I don't play video games (I briefly had a Nintendo DS but all I ever played was the Simpsons game and the Professor Layton and Ace Attorney series'). I only posted that because for some reason I was aware of it (probably Cracked.com), and it's made by Atari, and also sounds like what I imagine playing video games is like.

A lot of people wanted that game to be good, but there are just too many glitches within the game that hold it back from reaching what it could have been. That, and the final product just wasn't executed in the fashion that gamers were initially lead to believe. With that, one of my old co-workers had the game and he said he thoroughly enjoyed it, so maybe sinep could find it to be a great adventure.

does it come with a gun to shoot at the screen? or if it doesn't come with one, can you use one from another game? shooting games NEED guns to make them cool. I say this with the experience of only playing Time Crisis and maybe TC2..

Great game!
2nd one is really good.
Haven't played the 3rd but I hear the series just keeps getting better.

uncharted 2 was fun, I just finished it. Damn game seemed to go on forever.
I'd be all like, "ok this is the final battle," but nope.
I'm finding red dead redemption to be pretty slow starting.
too much riding around on a horse doing nothing. though it is starting to pick up.
