I'm glad that nobody will know what's going to happen after season 5
Show runners Dan Weiss and David Benioff confirmed over the weekend that their show would be ending in the same place as the book series, and sooner than the books as well.

Speaking to the Oxford Union, Benioff addressed the TV series outpacing the books:

Luckily, we’ve been talking about this with George for a long time, ever since we saw this could happen, and we know where things are heading. And so we’ll eventually, basically, meet up at pretty much the same place where George is going; there might be a few deviations along the route, but we’re heading towards the same destination. I kind of wish that there were some things we didn’t have to spoil, but we’re kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. The show must go on. . .and that’s what we’re going to do.

It makes the world safer for show watchers in terms of spoiler avoidance, but I do have some sympathy for book readers (aside from the ones who get their jollies spoiling things for show watchers).

It's a very odd situation of literature vs. television, and you've got to wonder how they ended up starting the series when they did, when some simple math would have told them that GRRM was unlikely to complete the books on time.

I was getting fed up with snobby watchers and readers: people who are annoying by saying they don't want to know anything about it or the readers who complain about characters or stories not being exactly the same as in the books. Get the fuck over yourselves. I don't care reading the books in 2 or 3 years. At least the show will be entertaining. It's going to be interesting to see and read both versions.

Am I the only one who's only lukewarm about this premiere? I think it was because I binge watched the previous seasons and last season in a 3 week span and have waited all this time... :noclue:

GRRM is doing some sci-fi show for HBO now. This guy has no ability to focus. He's constantly working on short stories and going to festivals and doing all sorts of other projects that have nothing to do with finishing his primary book series.

I was just joking, playing around with the you know nothing Jon Snow phrase. I enjoyed reading the books, but I don't compare them with the show. And it helps that I have a short term memory so I am surprised as well when I watch it.

I was being sarcastic in my response. Damn text! Haha there are watching parties a lot of the places here in Austin where people go to bars / cafes and watch it together and the people that are REALLLY REAAAAALLLY into the books are awesome to people watch during those watch parties especially when things do not follow the book. I really enjoy the show either way like any show there are some dud episodes but overall its well written, interesting, and I love the scenery.
