You guys all need to play it louder and repeatedly.
I had a chat on this with my kiddo over the holiday. He's a musician, at least he reads, plays (in 2 bands), and studies theory. He thinks it's better than Californication and SA. He started in on some minutia that was "really interesting" and thinks their choices were kind of a fu to the pop listener. I am really disappointed with a few exceptions, but I said I'd keep it on play periodically.

The only way to stay awake while listening to it.

So, I went to the show last night. A friend couldn’t come so I ended up taking my 6 year old boy as well as my 10 year old.
It was really fun, a bit strange and emotional doing it as a single dad but actually I’ve always been a crybaby at gigs
We were so far from the stage I couldn’t really see the performers but the big screens were fun.
The boys loved it and that was the biggest thrill, although the little one crashed and burned, sleeping through the last four or five songs! He’s been so desperate to hear black summer but he slept through it!
Thunder at and Anderson pak both killed it stone dead and to be fair to the crowd, they were great for the support acts. I was expecting much worse!

They did mix their set lists up quite a lot. Flea also played the bass lines to Public Image Ltd and Another one bites the dust at the show I went to.
I remember seeing them at a secret show at the Highbury Garage in 2002. A tiny venue for them to play. Anthony’s dad sorted me out with a free ticket because I was in the fanclub (it was a great fan club when he ran it, he’d send loads of cool stuff).
Anyway, I’m pissed off with myself now because I didn’t enjoy the gig as much as I should have. I had a really obnoxious attitude that they should be playing deep cuts at a gig like that but instead they were playing all the usual hits. I also used to get annoyed by the dads at gigs who were chaperoning their daughters. I was such a nob!
Now I want them to play the hits coz that’s what my kids wanna hear

Cool on the kiddos. Mine was raised with heavy doses of them too. I am not really fond of their setlists on this tour, though they gotten a bit better along the way. I had really high hopes for this new album. I remember reading an interview with Rubin where he said that people who liked SA will like UL....not the case with me. That they won't play anything from Josh's era strikes me as a bit weird too. Those albums have some real quality songs, and JK's presence in the band predated his taking over on guitar. This tour is a grandiose money grab.

Man, you should have seen the prices in the merch stand, crazy! The stuff looked great and everyone was wearing the shirts but they were about £50-90. It was cool seeing people in London wearing them over the next week though. We also bumped into Thundercat at the forbidden planet comic book shop and said hello, he was nice enough by which I mean he didn’t tell us to fuck off! Also, our seats were way at the back and the stage was obscured my monitors, not that I could see anything any way. Sound was great though.
I still love the new album, I knew they wouldn’t touch Josh’s stuff, they didn’t even play any Hillel songs.
We also went to see Guns N’ Roses the following Saturday. My eldest said that there was no way they’d match the chilis performance. He was right. Slash was great though.

I read Scar Tissue back when it came out. I remember a fair portion describing the dismal conditions they endured opening up for the Stones. In some ways they've become what they despised
