two seconds into Anthony singing it was over for me. What a shame. That song is not gonna go over well at stadiums this summer
It has almost 3M views in less than 24 hours on YouTube. Someone likes it.

Personally I think it’s weird and sea shanty and it’s definitely a grower. I’m loving it at this point. Light years ahead of the last two non John albums
RHCP have a lot of super die hard fans that praise anything RHCP do no matter what it is. That explains the 3 mil thing. The kind of people who think Stadium arcadium is a better album than BSSM. Needless to say, I don't respect them a lot

When I wrote that it was over for me after 2 seconds, I didn't mean it literally, but fast ok? That vocal melody is weak and clumsy as hell, and the guitar and bass parts underneath the same. Dark Necessities, the first single from their last album, is a much stronger song. RHCP just continue to fade and I think it's hard to watch.

Ditto, but I'm happy they are well and life is going good for em...just not for me anymore

I am a (born-again) die-hard Chili’s fan.

First couple of listens I was a bit underwhelmed and disappointed that they’d played it safe. Also a bit confused by Anthony’s accent.

However! After several listens I love it, especially Anthony’s Irish pirate impression! Can’t wait for the album!

Still not loving it. Nice to reconnect with JF in the band. What’s odd to me is they put this out as the first single. In the balance of the album there will be radio friendly funk self tributes. Interesting to see their endgame unfold

I've still not listened to it, I'm waiting for the whole thing to drop so I can listen front to back as they meant it from a sequencing perspective

Anthony Kiedis is pretty buff for someone pushing 60

Ak's gonna need O2 if they play that one live. There's the radio friendly funk. First listen and I like; it's a relaxed jam. Vox is too high in the mix and the guitar is almost lazy, but all in all pleasing.

DN’s Walkabout funk/fuzz is more interesting

His vocal cadence makes this unlistenable for me.

Not the One is aptly titled. Are they trying to lower expectations to the absolute lowest common denominator?

I was worried because I didn't really dig the first couple singles, but I'm pleasantly surprised with the album overall so far (perhaps due to lowered expectations). Probably wouldn't make the cut in a list of my Top 10 RHCP albums, but I'll give it a few more listens and see how it shakes out. (Though this is coming from someone who fucking loves By The Way, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. :hehe: )

Got through the 1st listen. It was nice to hear Froosh back in the fold. I read a review where the writer mentioned he thought JF looks at the band like a logic problem. Interesting remark, but with a few exceptions he doesn't seem to integrate his complex musical ideas much here. But...Aquatic Mouth Dance, The Grape Apes, She's a Lover, One Way Traffic, and Bastards of Light all made me smile wide though. There are touches of Shadows Collide With People in the mix that I liked too

Still digesting the new album. They still have plenty of energy on certain songs though, I'll give them that.

I don't terribly mind black summer. I couldn't get through any other song though. Basically I stopped with them after OHM. I don't like Anthony's voice and the music is corporate elevator rock imo.

Veronica is a pretty decent song. That's about it.

This is terrible. I'm a fan of 'old man' RCHP - I've liked most of their last couple of albums.

Bring back Josh. That had some spark. John F. hits this band like Ambien. :wavesad:

I had a chat on this with my kiddo over the holiday. He's a musician, at least he reads, plays (in 2 bands), and studies theory. He thinks it's better than Californication and SA. :hs: He started in on some minutia that was "really interesting" and thinks their choices were kind of a fu to the pop listener. I am really disappointed with a few exceptions, but I said I'd keep it on play periodically.

The only way to stay awake while listening to it.
