Anybody else looking forward to his new album to drop this week?

Me. He's in a class of his own.

yeah I guess I do. didn't know it was coming out though. I heard a concert of his from London the other day, the guy's just the coolest and most humble you'll find it seems

I was lucky enough to see him when he was touring a few years ago - small venue. Amazing - he played like 3 hours...

Class act for sure.

I'm reading a bio of his right now and am going back through his back catalogue to rediscover a lot of his older stuff as I'm reading about the recording of the albums. I'm hoping he tours the states again ... I'd pay big money to see him again...

I haven't seen him but I think I had better because he probably won't be doing too many more tours. His 80th birthday is on Sunday.

I love this NFB film Ladies and Gentlemen... Mr. Leonard Cohen

This informal black-and-white portrait of Leonard Cohen shows him at age 30 on a visit to his hometown of Montreal, where the poet, novelist and songwriter comes "to renew his neurotic affiliations." He reads his poetry to an enthusiastic crowd, strolls the streets of the city, relaxes in this three-dollar-a-night hotel room and even takes a bath.

He was pretty funny when I saw him - after a few songs he peers out at the audience....

"The last time I was singing in Minneapolis was 15 years ago....I was 60 years old then.... just a kid with a crazy dream...."

Like David Bowie, Leonard Cohen's final album is one of the best in years. Both men knew and accepted the end was imminent and made the best of their remaining time to create music. Thank you and RIP...

Unfortunately, I never got to see him in concert.
A few tracks from his last album released just last month.

Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah is my favourite, but K.D. Lang's version is pretty damn good too.

sad news, what a voice on that guy

The only album (CD) I have of his is the "Essential" best-of collection which I bought a few years ago, listened to a few times and shelved. Pulled it out last night after hearing news of his passing and for whatever reasons, much of his stuff really resonated for the first time.

This passing, and this week, has hit home like none other.

I actually came to Cohen through Jane's. A friend's mother, seeing my Ritual shirt when I was 16 or something, said, oh, that looks like the image on Leonard Cohen's album featuring Joan of Arc. The thought stuck in my mind and a few months later I came across The Spice Box of Earth collection of poems at a used book seller, first term of university. I have never seen the world the same way again.

I've had his new album on heavy rotation - even before he passed. It's his best since "The Future" - it's very solid...

I was a fan of Bowie...a devotee of Cohen. Very sad he's gone, but at the same time...he seemed ready...and what a body of work...

So glad I splashed out to see him in 2009 in a small theatre...one of my best 3 concerts ever.

Echo this, in terms of the connection point. I knew the name, but a friend showed me the back of the Cohen LP cover to connect the dots. This was 1991, if memory serves, and that was the intro. Was blessed to see him 7-8 times after that, and he was beyond majestic to the end of his touring days. This one hit, hard.
