Alice in Chains 1990 - Live in Seattle
This show kicks all kinds of ass...this dude apparently has a BUNCH of these up...they're from the Facelift era and its AIC at their most raw...let this serve as a reminder to those who like the newest incarnation that even on their best day, they can't compare to Layne in his prime...
Re: Alice in Chains 1990 - Live in Seattle
Even though he was junked out I still prefer Dirt over Facelift. But Layne was the man and without him to me its not AIC, just like if Layne would have lived and Jerry passed on it wouldn't be AIC to me. The other guys are replaceable but those two are not.

i remember seeing alice in chains and pearl jam (mookie blaylock back then) playing together at a small club here is sacramento (cattle club). i remember telling my friends that aic will be big someday and pearl jam were going nowhere. i guess i was right on one of them.

The only time I saw AIC was when they opened for Van Halen in '91 at The Pacific Ampitheater in Costa Mesa, CA. Even though Layne seemed really out of it that show (which actually added a welcome bit of unpredictability), I was really impressed with their set but never got around to seeing them again live.
On a similar bend, this band, Life Sex and Death seemed like a blatant rip-off of AIC and Stone Temple Pilots. Supposedly, the singer was some homeless guy the rest of the band found on the streets:

I never got to see the original line up. I saw them about a year or two ago. It was a great show, but I would have loved to see Layne.

I saw AIC acoustic at The Medicine Show in LA. It was a benefit for animals or something my sister and I heard about at the last minute. I think it was the debut of Porno. Casey announced the lady who ran the agency the benefit was for. Layne was in a wheel chair and the sisters from Heart sang with him. Great night.

I haven't paid ANY attention to the new incarnation of AIC or Cantrell guesting on people's sets and playing the AIC songs...at the end of the day I can't get as mad at him for doing it because I think he has always treated the legacy with respect...I think he mourned for a good while, did his solo thing and just wanted to play those songs again...from what I hear the new AIC didn't put out a horrible album either...and he also hasn't did a major cash grab deal imo...but ummmm yeah Hagar? Damn son...

Jerry played AIC songs in his solo sets...no one cared. It's all about the band name and the marketing. I'm sure it's hard and I know the dude is just doing his thing, but Layne Staley's voice was so unique it would be like seeing Jane's Addiction with a different singer. With a voice that unique a band cannot continue without it. Even though I'm not into them, I'd respect an Audioslave type approach. Create something new.

To be fair, my understanding of that performance was it was at Hagar's annual birthday bash he puts together every year at his Cabo Wabo bar down in Baja Mexico. He "invites" any number of his musician buddies to come down and they play a mostly covers gig kinda like a Camp Freddy thing. I guess we should thank God Hagar isn't buddies with Dave or Stephen.Essence_Smith wrote:I haven't paid ANY attention to the new incarnation of AIC or Cantrell guesting on people's sets and playing the AIC songs...at the end of the day I can't get as mad at him for doing it because I think he has always treated the legacy with respect...I think he mourned for a good while, did his solo thing and just wanted to play those songs again...from what I hear the new AIC didn't put out a horrible album either...and he also hasn't did a major cash grab deal imo...but ummmm yeah Hagar?
