new single from John 5 if anyone's interested. Definitely not his best work, feel like my man has let me down a bit. I had very high expectations because his last album, God told me to, is so brillant

Thanks a lot ES, you got me in a Dancehall mood today... But then I remembered Kardinal's sampling of Chaka Demus and Barrington Levy... and ended up at this again...

He grew up in the neighborhood I was born in... I moved out as a little kid, but my brother ended up back there for a long while. He really captures the real feel of Toronto if you live in the GTA.

Brought to my attention on the Killing Joke list. Has a bit of a Jane's vibe, definitely interesting:

This signer sounds just like 1991 Perry.

The new Billy Idol album "Kings and Queens of the Underground" is surprisingly decent.

New one from the Die Antwoord. Basically a remix of an old Aphex Twin tune and the video has cameos from Flea, Jack Black, Marilyn Manson, Carla Whatserface (the model) and the dude in blackface and the afro wig is (allegedly) Richard D. James himself.

This is a documentary of a local punk rock club that was basically the West Coast's alternative to CBGBs. The place was just inland of Newport Beach in Costa Mesa and I saw a few bands there including Fear and probably TSOL (most I couldn't remember the next day as we usually got blitzkrieged and didn't really give a shit who was playing) in '80 - '81 when the Orange County punk scene was blossoming. At the time, I remember hearing and reading a lot about the "cowboys" vs punks think between the Zubie's and CN crowd when my friends and I went there but aside from a couple cars being vandalized and cops hanging out along the street looking to bust drunks, I never saw firsthand any of the kind of mayhem that made the place so notorious. I do remember we always made it a point *not* to park in the lot, always a block or so down the street to avoid our car getting screwed with. We'd go to Zubies around 6pm, eat a cheap BBQ steak dinner and pound a few beers and stroll across the small parking lot to the Cuckoo's Nest to catch whoever might be playing on any given night. Because we weren't typical punkers, more long hair surfer/metalhead guys, we were able to move between both places with little hassle from the hillbilly or punker crowd.

Never knew this doc existed but man, those were some fun times.

If anyone likes hip hop and hasn't listened to Run the Jewels 2, they should. Haven't been able to stop listening for a week. I think it's even better than their first.
