Then again, that could have been the point all along.
That's quite possible. It could also be the ages of the people who do the bookings. I mean, maybe they are too young to know who he is. :noclue:
Nah, Morrissey is still a God in LA. There's a weird scene here where Depeche Mode and Oingo Boingo are still revered in ways that are hard to explain and you'd be hard pressed to find a high school without at least a handful of Latinas wearing kohl and Morrissey/Smiths shirts.
Yeah, Morrissey is big here in Mexico. I'm not a huge (crazy) fan of his, but have been influenced by people who are

I've been mystified by Kimmel's rise to be the heir to the Letterman/Leno late night crown. Conan O'Brien was and still is vastly more entertaining and a sharper wit. I think Kimmel peaked with The Man Show over a decade ago.
kimmel can be hilarious at times but conan is still the best. letterman is just getting too old and has lost it a bit. leno is easily the worst.

trust me this list is correct

conan
kimmel
letterman
fergunson
fallon
leno
I rarely tune in to any of the people listed; the few times that I have they were mediocre at best. I think Jon Stewart beats them all. (I realize his show is in a different format.)

Letterman once owned all of them though, back in the day when he was an outlaw badass that made his own rules, I wish I'd been able to see those 90's shows with him. Now his show is pretty boring for the most part, although for a relatively old guy he's pretty funny and sharp still

I don't know if that's quite right. I'm no expert in Morrissey, but it's hard for me to think charging him with "intolerance" is any less of a misdirection than a charge like reverse racism. It's a bit of a false equivalence, in other words, since his principles are hardly those of a majority position. What's more, he doesn't expect people to accommodate him in any way different than other celebrities and whatnot do, it just stands out because his requested accommodations are not those were used to of conspicuous consumption (e.g., this bottle of wine, this caviar from this town, etc) but rather follow directly from his vegetarianism (e.g., I don't want meat in the dressing room, I don't want meat served at the gig).
Of course for his dressing room, tour bus, backstage meet=greets he can request what he wants. I don't see a problem with that.
With the Kimmel thing he specifically asked the show to bump the duck dynasty, then when they said no, he said he wouldn't come on the show. I think asking venues not to sell meat products is an unreasonable request. There are other musicians who are vegan and animal activists who don't make such requests.
I read that he's boycotted Canada because of the seal hunt, but tours Spain. I guess he doesn't consider bull fighting cruelty to animals.

That's where we differ, I suppose. I don't know enough about Morrissey's consistency re: Spain and Canada, but I don't think it's unreasonable for him to request accommodation of his beliefs about the meat industry, especially since he doesn't really hold any leverage outside of his appearance/performance. It's not like Morrissey is bitching about the money he is losing because no one will bend to the will of his demands. He says, rather forthrightly, that these are his requests to perform and if they can't be met then it's not something he wants to do; and whatever second party (TV show, venue, etc) isn't out anything that they had by refusing. That is, they can refuse if that is their principle (we want people meat not to be interrupted, to put it bluntly), just as he can refuse not to be complicit in the process. No one is out anything. Look at all the frickin' money he could make from the Coachella offers for the Smiths-- it just seems crazy to me that people here are beating him up for choosing to take a stand for a legitimate cause rather than taking the "cash in now, baby" route.

Morrissey says he was sexually assaulted at airport

Morrissey says that airport security "sexually groped" him at the San Francisco International Airport this week.

The 56-year-old singer alleges the incident took place when he was going through airport security on his way to London.

"At 2:30 in the afternoon I went through the usual airport security procedure including the stand-up 'scanner', and all was well - no bleeps and nothing unusual. Before I could gather my belongings from the usual array of trays I was approached by an 'airport security officer' who stopped me, crouched before me and groped my penis and testicles. He quickly moved away as an older 'airport security officer' approached," he wrote on his website, True To You.

"The officer who sexually assaulted me was identified as the General Manager On Duty. Luckily I was accompanied by two members of British Airways Special Services, who were horrified at the sexual attack and suggested that I lodge a complaint," he continued.

TSA spokesperson Mike England denied Morrissey's version of the event, telling the New York Daily News that "upon review of closed circuit TV footage, TSA determined that the supervised officer followed standard operating procedures in the screening of this individual."

San Francisco International Airport

29 July 2015

San Francisco International Airport

On leaving the US on 27 July I flew from San Francisco International Airport to London on flight BA 284.

At 2:30 in the afternoon I went through the usual airport security procedure including the stand-up 'scanner', and all was well - no bleeps and nothing unusual.

Before I could gather my belongings from the usual array of trays I was approached by an "airport security officer" who stopped me, crouched before me and groped my penis and testicles. He quickly moved away as an older "airport security officer" approached.

The officer who sexually assaulted me was identified as the General Manager On Duty. Luckily I was accompanied by two members of British Airways Special Services, who were horrified at the sexual attack and suggested that I lodge a complaint. I asked if there would be any point in lodging a complaint since, as with any complaint against a figure in "authority", the complaints are simply collected in order to protect the guilty officer should the matter go further. The British Airways Special Services employees assured me that a complaint was worthwhile, and so I filed the appropriate information. However, before doing so, the guilty "officer" was confronted, and the conversation went thus:

You have just sexually groped this man.
Officer: That's just your opinion.
What you have done is illegal.
Officer: That's just your opinion.
You have no right to do what you have just done.
Officer: That's just your opinion.

Apart from "that's just your opinion", he would not comment, even though, since the penis and testicles were mine and no one else's, then my opinion must surely have some meaning. But, of course, what the airport security officer was saying was: your opinion will never count in the eyes of the law. The words "that's just your opinion" volunteered themselves from this 'officer's' mouth before he had even heard the question. He knew he could be confronted, but he also knew that he could never be challenged (even though the entire incident is most certainly on CCTV camera).

In the interests of imperishable bureaucracy my submitted complaint against this 'officer' will obviously be either unread or ignored because, as we all know, on matters of officialism it is not possible to be pleasantly surprised by anything at all. However, what is clear is that, should you find yourself traveling through San Francisco International Airport, you should expect sexual abuse from the so-called 'security officers' who, we are unconvincingly warned, are acting only for our security.

Do people have minds?

New Morrissey song with Chad Smith & Josh Klinghoffer.

https://consequence.net/2022/11/morriss ... se-stream/
Produced by Andrew Watt, “Rebels Without Applause” features Chad Smith on drums and Josh Klinghoffer on guitar, percussion, and keys. With a classic Smiths-style guitar line, Morrissey looks back on the under-appreciated creatives of years’ past, crooning, “Generation X and X-Ray Spex/ We loved them all.”

It’s a curious time for Morrissey to release a single since earlier this month, he said his Watt-produced album Bonfire of Teenagers would no longer be released in February. Instead, the artist said “Its fate is exclusively in the hands of Capitol Records [Los Angeles].” Whenever it does come out, however, the record will also include appearances by Miley Cyrus and Iggy Pop.
