New QOTSA Album Guests

#1 Post by thoreau » Thu Feb 07, 2013 12:40 pm

Looks like the confirmed guests on the new Queens of the Stone Age album are (so far):

Dave Grohl
Nick Oliveri
Mark Lanegan
Alain Johannes
Trent Reznor
Elton John
Brody Dalle
Jake Shears (Scissor Sisters)

I, for one, am pretty damn excited about it. I'm still really bummed that Joey Castillo is no longer in Queens.

While I'm excited about all of the guests, these 3 are crucial.

Form everything I've heard, that seems to be the case. Although, Ive also heard there was extra drama of some sort during the first stages of recording.

AS great as Dave Grohl is, I think Joey has been the best fit that QOTSA has ever seen in a drummer.

Josh, Troy, and Joey were a great core trio on the last two albums.

Fuck yeah! Can't wait. I play drums to SFTD religiously these days.

Elton John? I can't stand that guy and I don't care for 99% of his music either. Excited about the record nonetheless.

It sounds like ZZ Top attacked a U2 concert by throwing motorcycles from a blimp.

Sounds like a commercial, for apple or headphones or some shit. I'd rather hear Katy Perry or Lady Gaga sing over this.

As much as I love EODM they're sounding a little too similar now

Yeah I can't get in to anything they've done since SFTD, which is a damm masterpiece in my opinion. Their first few records are hugely underrated. Seeing them front row at Lolla 03 with Lanegan and Nick is a treasured memory. Lanegan looked and sung like a man possessed.

Qotsa are such a strange band for me...I really didn't care for them the first couple times I saw them...had a buddy into kyuss who was always trying to get me into them/go to shows but I wasn't feeling them...saw qotsa supporting their first s/t record opening for smashing pumpkins at the Roxy...hated em...saw them supporting SFTD when I went to see trail of the dead open for them at the Palladium...my friend and I bailed half way into queens set to the chagrin of my kyuss buddy who I'd grabbed extra tickets from...

I really didn't like Nick or mark in that band...for whatever reason when lullabies came out with Troy and Joey they clicked for me...after that I got sucked into their back catalog and finally got into Nick and mark...I even liked that Era Vulgaris record, which I thought was under rated, they have slipped off since then for me...love those first 5 records though....kyuss is still mostly meh to me :bored:

So ya, qotsa have been a strange journey for me. I can't think of another band I didn't like that I 180'd on as hard as them

Qotsa are kinda meh to me.

They have some songs I really like, and I think the intro to Songs For the Dead is the best intro ever, other than that ... never been too much of a fan

Can't wait to see how Trent craps up the song he's on.

I'm sure it was probably good before he got involved.

I like the new QQTSA song.

I think I'm going to get tickets for the tour coming up with Royal Blood.

It doesn't sound like the same show I saw, but when I saw QOTSA at the Palladium on 10/4/02, I remember bailing around the encore break. It wasn't that they sucked or anything, it was just one of those bands/shows I just couldn't get into. It was like once I heard "No One Knows," I was struggling to stay engaged. Even moreso when I saw them open for NIN in 2005.
