I'm a nut for Froosh too.

Ataxia always reminds me of old PIL. Love both these records.

I love Fru as well pretty much all those solo albums are great to me. I actually love the fact that he can still shred when he wants to but holds back and creates interesting things while remaining simple.

Ataxia is definitely my favorite though. Joe is very underrated on those albums but to me while I love Fru that bottom end he holds down is key. Much like a lot of my favorite Fugazi albums

Joe Lally is underrated as is Brendan Canty. Fugazi had great songs. I never got into their whole no sex and drugs thing but I love them.

I saw one of the 'performance' series shows in LA and it was John, Josh and Joe. I think it was Performance Four. I wish I had gotten ticket to more of them, it was different material at each. There was one with Flea and Eric as well.

He's a true artist. I respect him a lot for leaving the Chilis at this point. I heard he was playing in his girlfriend's band and I did see a pic of him backstage at a System of a Down show. I wish he'd release more solo albums. I'd love to hear a JF piano record.

Interesting. Part of his resume I respect the most is in the chilis.... Especially as a player and songwriter. That includes sa which I believe is vastly underrated here. From what I've heard, I sorely miss him already there.

I can't complain on his solo efforts. He's effort there isprolific.

I am in la, so I'd love to see him soon in a small venue though

I actually love most of the stuff he has done with the Chilis as well. I wasn't a fan of SA that much but I was a fan of BTW after I came back and listened to it a couple years later. To me BTW is the Chilis Beach Boys record and in a way he was the Brian Wilson on that album and wrote the harmonies and everything like that.

Don't get me wrong. I love his work with RHCP and for me that's the classic lineup and there's something special about those four guys playing together. I could see though after SA that he kind of put a lid on RHCP for him. That album is so much John and it's a ton of material. He's not into being a rock star and he's pretty much mastered being a RHCP. Time to do something else. I bet he comes back at some point though.

I think he will as well. But I would love to see he and Jon Theodore do something together, I think it would be really interesting.

As much as I love the first 3 Mars Volta records I have never been a fan of Omar's playing outside of At The Drive-In but this is a pretty cool record but its kind of hard to describe as well. They seems to play well with one another but have different styles. But you can tell that hanging out with John has wore off on Omar given that Omar has 25 or so solo records since like 2006.

Agreed. I cannot imagine him back in RHCP nowadays. I respect him a lot and that Ataxia stuff sounds really good.

Apparently he has a new EP out now or due out very soon. Nice. I hope it's good.

I just listened to it and my first impression is that I really like it. It's interesting to hear him use a very different instrumentation than normal, i.e. the electronic drums and synths and sampling. There's even a fuckin rap track on there, I guess it could be his buddies from Wu-Tang Clan that are on there. Cool song. Definitely an album I want to listen to again
