The Jesus And Mary Chain

#1 Post by Pandemonium » Mon Apr 30, 2012 9:42 pm

They're gearing up for some shows through the Summer, but they are widely scattered and in the case of LA, booked at some pretty strange venues (Hollywood Park?). They recently played their first 2012 show at SWSX at the HoB:

Yep. Saw them in '85. I was a kid and didn't know any better, but they played for an unbelievably short amount of time.

10$ at Hollywood Park is a pretty good deal. Intriguing.

True, JAMC are one band who I much prefer on record vs live. Still, in the right frame of mind and in a small venue, they're decent live.

I've seen them three times, first at Lollapalooza '92 in San Francisco which was "meh." Loved the tunes but playing in daylight and having about as much stage presence as The Cars really didn't do it for me. Saw them again in '98 at The Palace/Avalon in Hollywood which was the last show before the one the brothers had a big fight onstage and basically canceled the rest of the tour and ended the band. So there was a welcome layer of tension and chaos in the set and they played several songs in really different arrangements which was cool. Last time I saw them was in '08 when they reunited, played the Wiltern with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (who I actually thought was more interesting) supporting which was a great double bill.

I was listening to automatic last week. BRMC are great love or at least the 2 times I've seen them. They play a long show, no JA bullshit short list.

I'm not sure if I'm going to go to this show. The tickets are $59.50.

Seems a bit steep for a general admission standing only venue.

Just an FYI, The Jesus And Mary Chain are finally recording a new album with Youth from Killing Joke producing. It should be done before the end of the year for an early 2016 release along with an extensive tour to support it.

Finally, a date has been set for their new album, Damaged And Joy due on March 24th, 2017. This is the first song off of it:

the song is catchy but the mix/production seems off to me. sounds sort of amateurish. i hate the electronic drums too but what do i know??
