i heard 2 songs and thought it sounded like most of Radiohead's more boring drivel. I don't really understand the whiney no melody vocals thing, but Thom Yorke sure has made millions off of it. Good for him.
Re: Atoms for Peace album streaming live and interview with
the title track is my favorite so far.
Re: Atoms for Peace album streaming live and interview with
Well, I just started streaming from the pitchfork site and listening again to Before Your Eyes for the 5th time and all I can say is that I can't get tired of it. Looking forward to the rest (ok I did like the singles they put out before)

Don't really like it. It's not really that refreshing at all. It kinda reminds me of my first (dysfunctional) band I was in, years ago....
Once we tried to record something cuz all we had were some recorded jams, not something you'd let other people hear. I picked out one of the improvised pieces that had already a song-like structure. I e-mailed it to everyone and everybody said 'yeah, let's do this'... when we actually sat down to record, no one of the rest of the band had figured out their parts. So we firstly recorded a bass take of mine and I expected the rest to do theirs... and none of it happened. The guitar player remembered half of his parts, the other half he came up with didn't sync with the bass. The singer came up with a terrible lazy vocal line, compared to the original improvised one. And the drummer and keyboard player didn't even bring their own instruments. Our friend who recorded us added some programmed blips and bleeps (and distortion to my bass), and he did a terrific job at that, but it just doesn't save it. I can't really listen to it cuz it is too messed up for me. It could've been so much better. The lazy attitude of the band made me quit, and that's the story of 'my first band'.
Anyway, here's an excerpt of said recording: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1764921/Lightning-sample.mp3. The programmed blips and bleeps have been used in music for more than a decade and I think it's kinda boring.
In Atoms for Peace I hear too little of interest. Also, Thom Yorke's obviously autotuned at points... don't care for that.
