Sitting on 4 PIPs going to be good times, trying to just do the whole weekend in an RV parked at a camp site along the river so we can bring the dogs as well. Going to be a killer time!

You listen to U2 I would not expect you to know any of the groups in a punk/hip-hop/comedy festival. I posted a link to the rest of the line up. Guess you have never heard of Run DMC or Rakim either?

Also as a JANES fan how the fuck do you not know who X is?

I've heard some of Turbonegro's stuff a long time ago, they're from Norway. Can't remember if they suck or not and too lazy to check right now

I do know some of the bands, I've just never heard even a single song from any of the ones named on that piece of paper. That doesn't mean I don't know them. I do know Santigold, Twin Sister, Run DMC, De La Soul, Turbonegro and, of course, Tomahawk (I have listened to them.)

There's a fucking veggie hot dog contest. And a Weird Al tribute band! This shit can't be fur realz.

And I don't know most of those bands because I'm not really interested. If I see a list of punk/hip hop bands, I'll most likely skip it. Not my thing

Well if you have not you should check out Bob Mould as well as X (they will be playing the Los Angeles album and are an influence on Janes). As for the hot dog eating contest that is a little lame I never watch that, the comedy stage is good other than that though.

Am I wrong in thinking I heard Tomahawk was on this bill before?

I'm surprised X is still around, thought they were another one of the dysfunctional bands that had split up long ago. Cool band

Yeah I'm pretty stoked about seeing X play. I love this fest they're also partnered with:

They've been together for occasional tours and one-off shows for the last decade. Usually when they take a year or two break, it's the 3 band members away from guitarist Billy Zoom usually so they can do The Knitter's thing with Dave Alvin. However, I was under the impression they were going to retire a couple years ago when Exene was supposedly diagnosed with MS but there was a recent interview where she claims she was misdiagnosed. Their first 4 albums are excellent w/Under The Big Black Sun at the top of my favorite LA punk records. I about shit my mess tent when Dave played the riff to "Hungry Wolf" at the Irvine NINJA show - I really thought they were gonna do the whole song for a couple seconds there.

They're up there.

NoMeansNo might have Jello playing with them as well, and then OFF!, the Refused, I just wished that Graham would have booked the Bad Brains again as even though they're older they're still a fun show in this setting

X are amazing.
PIL are great.

I like De La Soul but they're probably boring now.

Explosions in the Sky are good.

As are Napalm Death (if you like metal).

That might be one of the best festival lineups since about 2004 (Curiosa).

It will be hard to top last year and 2010 was weird since the Descendents and Mastadon were playing at the same time.

What I love about this one is there is usually something for everyone. If you look at the previous years bands you will see that they have a lot of people that they try to cater too instead of being like shitty ACL.

I've worked a couple X shows at the club.

I remember one back in my bouncer days when Exene was leaning on the rail of the barricade singing and some whacked out dude grabbed her fingers and damn near bent them backwards. Burly beast that she is she hauled back and socked him several times in the the face like a man. :scared:

We had to rescue that dude before the crowd beat him to death (we didn't move that fast, though) and she continued the set with her finger wrapped.

I've only seen X twice, both times in the 80's. First time was The Palace when Under The Big Black Sun was out and I have to admit it was one of the few times I got so trashed I really don't remember much of the show. Second time was when they were touring with The Red Hot Chili Peppers at the end of Summer '85 and they were plugging the disappointing "Ain't Love Grand" album. They played Irvine Meadows and the place was maybe 1/2 full and it was pretty clear Billy Zoom was not long for being in the band. It's true they've never really been the most physically active band onstage, they pretty much do their thing and it's more up to the crowd to make or break how really "exciting" the show turns out.

Explosions in the Sky really are decent for what they are. Derivative, yes... like a sort of GY!BE, Mogwai, Sigur Ros, MBV type thing... but a good show nonetheless.

Check out the dude with the EBow, bottleneck slide, and pick in his mouth...
