Re: Politics
I'm watching Hegseth's confirmation hearing and I do not think that he is the right choice for SECDEF. Basically Trump picked a Fox News host he liked that happened to have some military experience. He's the token drunken soldier that is the reason the whole unit gets safety briefs. Oh and he is a rapist.
Re: Politics
All of his picks are breathtakingly incompetent and lethally dishonest but will bend the knee and get filled at his first urge …every single time

I'm not willing to go that far with the doom and gloom namely because I have faith in the Constitution. I believe its going to get tested like never before however. I believe the Federal Courts are going to get quite the workout.
When he pardons half of those nut jobs from the Jan 6th attack on the Capitol though its going to be a green light for the extremists. I'm more worried about them than the gov't.
Re: Politics
Again, Madison never saw this coming. His reliance on Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau didn’t envision this complete disregard for truth, honor, and respect for the principles it was written for. Nor the degenerates who would overwhelmingly support it (based on yet more lies). There are no guardrails now. Re: Politics
So on top of everything we're due for a recession, if that happens do you see the House flipping?
Re: Politics
Time for another drink. Oddly I take comfort I'm chatting with someone from Texas....and I have grown to hate old people too....lol
Re: Politics
I'm not "from" here but I do live here. Its not as bad as people would think. Some of the laws are backwards as fuck though.
I don't know I think they can flip the House but it will take a helluva recession which it's been 20 years since the 2005-ish recession. We're due and its the ultimate equalizer because the only thing that is going to fix that is it happening then correcting. Unless of course Congress just tries to spend our way out of a recession.

With the tariffs likely going to raise prices further I don't see how we do not end up in a recession

Re: Politics
On the eve of Trump's inauspicious inauguration, I find myself checking if I'm dreaming or if this is real life. I still can't believe that this fucking orange piece of shit got elected again!
I am looking forward to Melania's White House Christmas decor though. She probably won't repeat the blood red Christmas trees, maybe black this year?

Re: Politics
So far, the big names running for the Liberal Party leadership race is Mark Carney ( former governor of Bank of Canada and Bank of England) and Cynthia Freeland former Deputy Prime Minister and foreign minister. I like her but I don't know how well she'll do.
Re: Politics
The barrage of EOs are supposed to start coming today.
Re: Politics
Chrystia Freeland has been targetted by Russian propaganda for years now. A significant portion of Canadians believe that she's a Nazi (because, as she has acknowledged, her grandfather was a collaborator), but also somehow too woke/Leftist, and also is completely unqualified and incompetent (despite holding multiple cabinet positions and seemingly doing a fairly reasonable job).Artemis wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 4:39 pmSo far, the big names running for the Liberal Party leadership race is Mark Carney ( former governor of Bank of Canada and Bank of England) and Cynthia Freeland former Deputy Prime Minister and foreign minister. Plus, good old-fashioned misogyny. Whoever ends up as leader of the party is being set up to lose this election anyway, unless by some miracle Bernier and the PPC manage to split more of the right-wing vote.

Today was the last straw, so when it comes to white friends, no. It's a given. And they have no moral obligation to have my personal interests in mind. But my family, yeah. I've had plenty of them excused from my life these past few months. Today was the last straw. Trumps deportation plans that will directly affect some of my family members who have worked their ass off and contribute to our community. Elon musk saluting like a Nazi, and finally my unprecedented hatred for Charlie kirk.. Such a mindless tool who claims moral superiority , but he deserves bad things and it's okay that I feel that way.
Anyhow, I don't have an issue with republicans, my issue is with Trump personally and his supporters in majority. They have been nothing but divisive and brutally cruel to minorities and members of LGBT.
January 6ers are now free. Hey, a felon freeing other felons.
Rant over. Feel free to tell me I'm a lunatic 🫡
Re: Politics
You're not a lunatic and its completely normal to be pissed off. Hell I'm pissed off I'm a liberal in TX where I'm seeing some of the same things coming down the pike. People I've known for years are in danger of eventually being deported due to this stuff.MicrowavedGerbil wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 6:50 pmToday was the last straw, so when it comes to white friends, no. Re: Politics
I couldn't convince my own brother that trump would want to deport our other brothers wife because she's undocumented and the judge keeps delaying her case. Keeps insisting trump will only target criminals. Mind you we are mexican.. white mexicans, majority over 6 feet tall. so imagine the entitlement they feel hailing trump as 2nd generation mexicans. Disregard our background over light skin and citizen status... idk how they ended up gravitating towards conservatism. They became homophobic and intolerant. I'm dissapointed.Juana wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 6:56 pmYou're not a lunatic and its completely normal to be pissed off. Re: Politics
That apartheid fucker with the nazi salute, not once but twice. Then doesn't try to clarify it, just says the left always wants to call everyone hitler. The face when he did it....it was on purpose....He's on the spectrum, but that's no excuse.....just dog whistling for these extremist racist groups to come out of the woodwork yet again.
Hope the pissed off people at least remember MLK today and how effective Peaceful protest are. It doesn't allow opposition or history to muddy up what's right and wrong.

Re: Politics
I just saw it and the fact he did it twice and the ADL is saying that it was an "awkward gesture" just shows that they've been bought. I guess Drumpf really is going to start bringing in the 4th Reich, hopefully Congress and the SCOTUS stand up to him.

My step son is on the spectrum, he's non verbal and fidgets around like a maniac.. he's never accidently done anything remotely like that when expressing heartfelt gratitude
I respected him for his scientific integrity but now he's on my shit list. If I didn't have immediate family who support him and defend him to the end, this would have been much easier to deal with but unfortunately it's thrown in my face every time I come around.

Re: Politics
Reminds me of the "valley Mexicans" here in TX. They're all for Trump and anti immigrant even though their parents were and might be undocumented themselves. Its a weird self loathing, and they think they're better than "border jumpers" or whatever they call them.MicrowavedGerbil wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 8:44 amMy step son is on the spectrum, he's non verbal and fidgets around like a maniac.. he's never accidently done anything remotely like that when expressing heartfelt gratitude![]()

I'm a white male and I feel threatened by what this administration is going to bring out in this country.
