Re: Coronavirus

Even I couldn't have predicted how terribly the United States has done. Out of the three million counted infections, fully a third of them are in the United States. That's absolutely ridiculous.

Re: Donald Trump running for President.

It's not real populism though. At least, it's not real in its origins. Yes, of course Trump wasn't the hand-picked puppet of the American ultrawealthy. But Putin is by some estimates the wealthiest person on the planet (of course unofficially, since we have no idea how much money he actually has). T...

Re: Coronavirus

I will say that I suppose it's good that the world shutting down has held the total (tested) infections to about 3-3.25 million by the end of April. Without any mitigation, it would easily have hit the 10 million I predicted (and who knows what the actual number should have been in China if they had...

Re: Donald Trump running for President.

That is a good map you have to demonstrate the dichotomy of represention in the US. It may actually also represent the extreme balance we have going.... We don't think of the consequences of completely getting rid of the electoral college. How long do you think it would be until there would be real...

Re: Donald Trump running for President.

I encounter a lot of people who voted (will definitely again) for Trump. It is like a prophet thing to them. The coasts and the foreign are the enemy, who orchestrate their misery (and in reality they are very miserable). Trump has all the right words. It's unfortunate that we associate them ...

Re: Donald Trump running for President.

Who voted for this man? Is democracy that flawed? Are a percentage of the population that stupid? What is going on America? 30 million+ fundamentalist Christians... A shitton of gerrymandered voting districts... Whole states with absolutely fucked economies and education / health and a huge opioid ...

Re: Coronavirus

I haven't been wearing one and they don't seem to be requiring it at any stores here. People seem to be basically pretty good about staying distanced. I haven't been either but I just ordered some on Sunday, hope to get them by Friday. I shop for my mother and I still use public transit. I walk whe...

Re: Coronavirus

It's interesting how confusing this is. Canadian health officials have tried to clarify it, because people were asking questions like: "Can I have a beer with my neighbour if we stay six feet apart?" It seems that everyone is trying to figure out what the maximal extent of socializing is that is "pe...

Oh, you mean for "Sex and the City: Male Edition"?
I don't know. I also doubt it was much money.

Re: Coronavirus

It's like prison. According to some sources, it takes about a year to acclimatize to the institutionalized lifestyle, after which point, for quite a few it's less punishment and more the new normal. That's also why prisoners tend to create their own culture. It's a real problem for retribution-based...

I def see articles saying we had it in dec..but every doctor I find on the subject is saying where are the dead then? where is the pneumonia caseload? Just gonna have to wait... I researched a bit and it turns out that we normally have relatively few ICU's but that we're able to turn regular beds into ICU's fast if need be so i.e. we'll have plenty as long as we can control the curve when we start opening the country. No crisis right now that's for sure Well, that’s good. ...

Re: Coronavirus

I saw a headline the other day that was comparing coronavirus deaths to wartime deaths. Why don't we do this with every virus? Because the US President declared himself a "Wartime President" because of this event. And because this coronavirus is not like every virus. It is a *novel* virus that spre...
